You know guys?, i was thinking that if we discover a base in a VERY happy country and want if blew up, we might tell the goverment to attack it with their own interceptors (bombing), so that we might lose some points (happyness of the population due to air strikes) but have that base wiped out.

The loss of points would be the same as if we ignore a terror. Also it would cost LOTSA money (about 8´000,000 per strike). And goverment would be a quite angry...

I don't see how they can realstically destroy these bases from the air. They seem to be hundreds(or at least dozens) of meters below hard Earth with materials stronger than concrete. If you could demolish bases from the air, both sides would have done it already.

wasnt something like this brought up already?

no?

But someone said thats all on the surface is the elevator acces and mabe... mabe a few defense platforms but nothing too serious...

So the only use for it is to take out the weapons platforms on the surface to ensure that your guys actualy make into the elevator...

Probably, there are a lot of threads with the same ideas in the Labs.

He's right. Technically, the only thing that'd come close to being useful would be a Bunkerbuster, but it would probably need alien alloys and such, as well as a longer timer to make it useful against alien bases.

While using air-support during most missions is dangerous because of bystanders, environmental damage, and the mobile nature of the opponent; bases do not have such considerations. Suppose you do develop the 'Better Rubber Baby Buggy Bunker Buster'(Sorry). They would be kinda expensive(probably 10-15gs each) and could be equipped on whatever craft like other weapons.

Anyhow...............................

Yours guys in the base probably have transponders on them, telling detailed location to the controller. It would be rather easy to say, "detonate 20 feet north, 10 feet east, and 5 feet of my current coordinates". Then 15-20 turns later there is a massive explosion centered around the coordinate. Aliens might have or develop similar tech so do not expect to sit dandy in a base and snipe aliens as they come down the hallway.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just wanted to say I downloaded the demo and it looks really good. It looks like apocalypse on steriods! Only problem is that I cannot get anything to work other than looking at the globe. Is that all there is at this point of the game, or is there more?

In any case, keep up the great work devs!! =b

I noticed that too :P LOL they aint going to give out the game yet

I think it would be a fun extra aspect to add to the game, it may not be completely effective or you try it then realise that the only way to defeat a base is by infilitration.

The predictable numbers of alien bases per difficulty level aside, I think by being able to bomb them and such or to do anything else with them with respect to infiltration I feel has a lot to do with what sort of importance is lended to their existance in the first place.
