Deimos
Nice colouration on the landmasses, but there's some artifacting on the oceans that quite noticable at 100% zoom level. It might be better if the oceans and lakes were just one colour as not only would it drop the file size but it would also get rid of the artifacts. Breunor
Wasn't there talk about using more than one texture depending on the zoom level? So this texture could be for the default zoom, and as you get closer a more detailed texture is loaded for each section of the globe. As you spin the globe each texture is loaded as you reach a new section. So at the higher zoom, you might only have 25% of the globe textured with a much higher detail. As you spin the model, a new texture is loaded before you can see the edge of the current one. Or would it be simpler just to load a single massive texture? j'ordos
What would happen if you rotate the globe while fully zoomed in and come across a dividing line between two textures? When would the second one get loaded? Once you cross the line? But wouldn't there be a moment then when you can see part of the globe without nice texture? And wouldn't there be a visible line between those two textures?
Crix Dorius
It's a very compressed file. The original has 17 MB.
Deimos
17mb is that all? Seriously though, have you tried compressing the file with .png? I ask for two reasons 1, as its the format we're using in the game engine and 2, it does a better job of compressing the file with less artifacting. That and it saves RK a job of converting the jpg into a png
