GreatGold
Hey All - I get the following error message when attempting to run the latest alpha: This application has failed to start because MSVCR71.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. The installation appears to finish correctly, and I get a "complete" notice when it is finished. This error only happens when I attempt to actually run the program. It immediately crashes to desktop, and gives me this message. Here are my system stats:AMD 2400XP512 DDR RAMWindows XPnVidia 4600 w/128 RAM(I think thats all the relevant stuff?) Anyone know what the problem may be? Thanks,Gold
GreatGold
Hey - Ok, thanks to tzuchan I got the missing .dll file. Now, though, I get the following errior when I try to run the program. Once again, I get an immediate crash to desktop followed by the eror window. I've attached a picture of the error window to this post. Any ideas? Thanks,Gold
tzuchan
It's a known issue, it has to do with the orge engine that we are using, don't worry too much about it yet, try using the opengl option instead... *edit*Whoops! Not the one I saw before in the original thread, but looks like it has to do with directx9 again... Using opengl instead might work... tzuchan
When you first start xenocide, there should be a launcher that lets you select between the two, the ORGE launcher...
GreatGold
Hmmm- I dont get that option. When I select the .exe it starts the alpha, which then promptly crashes. - Gold EDIT: I just uninstalled, re-downloaded, and reinstalled the installation files. Still get the error as stated above. Just so I know I'm using the correct file, it is called: xenocide-0.0.6-IR (which was extracted from: xenocide-0.0.6-IR.exe.torrent). Are these the correct files? GreatGold
Hey - No, I do not get that screen at all. I'm going to run through the events of the install 1 by 1. 1.) Download xenocide-0.0.6-IR.exe.torrent and run.2.) Run xenocide-0.0.6-IR.exe (downloaded by the above client)3.) I get the licence screen that asks if I accept all the open source licence stuff. I agree and hit next.4.) Program installs itself with no errors and reports that the installation was completed.5.) I try to run the Xenocide .exe (which interestingly does not have an icon, but only the dafualt windows .exe icon)5.) The program immediately crashes and gives the above mentioned error. So my next question is, at what point should I be able to select the openGL? Thanks,Gold
GreatGold
second possibly missing file: msvcr71.zip Yeah, I downloaded and installed that .dll as well from www.dll-files.com (i think that was the site). That got rid of the .dll error, but doesnt prevent the current one. - Gold
tzuchan
By all rights, The screen I posted should have been the first screen you see every time you start up xenocide...(that is to say, at point 5) I'm lost as to what to do at this point... GreatGold
Hmmm- Then I am also at a loss. Is there a set of files I need to download in order for the OGRE engine to function properly? Does anyone have any idea? Does that error message give us any hints? red knight
Post in the issue tracker and add the ogre.log file into the tracker, so we can check it and know what is wrong. Do you have DirectX 9c installed? Try deleting the ogre.cfg file. GreetingsRed Knight

It appears that I have DirectX 9.0b installed, although I thought I had 9.0c. I will reinstall it to see if that helps. Thanks,Gold
GreatGold
Hey All - Well, that solved it. I had 9.0b, and 9.0c is definately required. So this crash was completely my fault. Thanks for all the help from everyone in getting to the bottom of it though! Thanks!Gold
