Hi, I'm sorry, any new ETA? The last downtime lasted for about 2 weeks (though hardware fault was involved, not a planned upgrade). You can call me a pessimist, but now I'm prepared for the worst.

BTW, would anybody be so kind to provide me with a gmail invitation? Seems like a good time to try it :)

perhaps we could get a backup server of some sort on another server? it would be nice to have a server to fall back on when the main one dies. I mean on an existing server?

I tried running one but it conflicted and was pretty unstable.
Looks like those two are not meant to be on the same machine.

So let's wait until lxnt ressurects like Jezus Edited by nachtwolf

Laughed my arse off when a friend told me : GOOD THEY'LL CHANGE THE COLORS!

I unfortunately had to turn him off saying that was the game, not the server.

ROFL

No offense, just looking at the bright side of life.

Please when ufo2000 server come back to online?

I am uncertain when it will be back online. However, having said that, next time when this happens I may attempt to 'host' ufo2k as a backup server with my Linux Box. However, the idea of doing this still acquires me to acquire logs for any errors that happened within games so that we can keep those 'errors' in mind to possibly fix if they are constantly occurring. I am not certain if the lxnt server contained special log files, or ufo2k contained it itself, but I would assume ufo2k had this feature due to that it logs information such as battles. :)

Everything required to run the server is contained in ufo2000 sources distribution. The server automatically manages users database, stores battle results and error reports. There are a few scripts which can access the database to provide reports in user friendly html format (which you used to see at http://ufo2000.lxnt.info/results-beta.php). See db2htmlreport.lua script in the source distributive, in order to build lua interpreter which can execute this script, run 'make tools'.

I also get a "failed to connect" message trying to connect to Grim's server, which is odd because I can access it with my web browser with no problems. Tried disabling my firewall and it didn't help. I'm running version 1007, anyone have any ideas?

I'm sorry, that's my fault. Version 1007 uses a new login method and server should also have revision 1006 or newer to support it in addition to old login method. See http://www.xcomufo.com/forums/index.php?sh...pic=5305&st=147 for more details.

Maybe Grimshrat would be kind enough to upgrade server to revision 1007, if it is not too hard for him of course.

[post="151563"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
Players - Probably quite a bit. :(
Developers - None. I can resseruct them anytime; hiding sort of speak. It's the development time that we lost. :(
Contributors - Potential ones possibly :(

Welcome. First of all, the main server is down (lxnt.info) so that is why you are getting "failed to connect". You can use grimshat's alternative server for the meantime by typing in the address name, 'ufo2000.exodus.ro' replacing 'lxnt.info'.

Second, russian letters can be fixed by going into the mission planner and hitting 'F9' if it is stable 0.6.627. Alternatively you can go into the 'ufo2000.ini' file and replace the code 'language = ru' with 'language = en'.

Hope that helps. :)

this is starting to become irritating. UFO2000 is all about online play ... except we dont have any online server. Develoment has become risky since no one knows whats happening. Perhaps its time to think about getting some sort of donations thing going so a commercial server can be added for ufo2k?

if it means the server will be up almost all the time i'd be willing to donate some monies

I agree, times when the server is not working are really irritating :(
Develoment has become risky since no one knows whats happening.
It is not that risky. The latest sources are uploaded to sourceforge, I have SVN repository backup up to revision 1003 (though the latest revision is 1007). Worse is with mysql database backup (mantis), it is about a month old, about the same age has ufo2000 server database backup. I did not pay much attention to backups recently because I did not have enough free time, usually backups were not older than a week :( In any case, we did not lose anything yet, lxnt.info can get back into action soon :)

In the worst case we can use sourceforge SVN repository (they started to provide such service recently).

Collecting some donations might be a good idea. Sourceforge has paypal donations system. We just need to assign a person responsible for getting these donations and paying the services we might need for the project.

Some people are already playing on the backup server.

But if I upgrade to 1007, will the current users be able to connect or they will have to upgrade the client?

And are beta users able to use the server? or it is another server for beta? should I put it on port 2001 ?

Yes, revision 1007 of server is compatible with all the previous versions of ufo2000 client (at least since 0.6.627). It has been running on lxnt.info:2001 for about a week without any problems before lxnt.info got down. But you can try putting it on port 2001 for testing first.

So the server is up, just not running yet :P

I've compiled revision 1007 but it seems like it uses some kind of mysql authentification. I've also found update_db.sql which I can probably use to create the database. But which should be the database name and user/password? I didn't find anything about this in ufo2000-srv.conf.

Game server uses sqlite3 database. It is stored in a ordinary file 'ufo2000.db' and does not require any passwords or anything else to access. Access to this file is only managed by file owner permissions (for security reasons it is better to enable access to it only for ufo2000 server user account). If you have compiled the server, it should be already ready to run. Unfortunately 'daemonize' mode is broken, so don't try to use it in configuration file. We used the server in the following way: there was a user registered in the system just for ufo2000 server. I logged in using SSH and this username and started the server with 'ufo2000-srv &'. After that I just logged off and the server kept running.

I've just thought of what might be a temporary fix... admittedly, it's a long shot, but it might work.

I shall contact... people... and see what I can do.

((Ok, so I'll talk to a gaming clan I know who have a good reputation and some spare bandwidth and server space, they can probably host.))

Ok, you can monitor the progress of the negotiations here and I've told them to get in touch with Serge and given them links to the UFO2k main page and these forums.

Hopefully, we should have some results soon. The server admins are really nice guys, I doubt they'll mind hosting. :)

Thanks, but it is too early to start searching for a different hosting yet. As far as I know, lxnt.info will recover eventually, lxnt just does not have enough free time to do this. After a migration to a different hardware is finished, it is expected to work stable again (crossing fingers).

There is also a possibility for one more option for hosting ufo2000 server, but it is too early to provide any details :)
