Since the speed problem is gone, the beta is superior in every way.
I can't say I had any more crashes with betas, either. Only less bugs.
The only problem is a lack of players because most people are still hanging around at the stable server.
You gotta help me drag them over!

and now we have all these fantastic guns to play with , Jezulkins L33t weapons , Nactwolfs smooth looking replacements.
I think the biggest put-off is the fact that it is 'just' a beta , it changes quite often and keeping up with versions is a challenge. Once the new stable is released , we will get more ppl switching over.

Actually releasing it too early would be a big mistake:I really think that not releasing a stable a long time ago during beta 0.7x was a big mistake. People are not going to understand what happened. But none the less, I like the beta very much.

After introduction of random damages and some other features, beta had *lots* of synchronization issues for quite a long time. MadRat did a great work fixing most of the problems but some of them still exist in the code. If we can live with the fact that there will be some number of broken games because of bugs, we can release the next stable version even now.
But there are some other things that can be finished. For example, we are very close to state when we can run without any data files from x-com, we only need to finish: http://ufo2k.lxnt.in...view.php?id=304 http://ufo2k.lxnt.in...view.php?id=182 and optionally http://ufo2k.lxnt.in...view.php?id=398 (if we want to hear some sounds when playing without x-com installed).
Also weapon sets support can be tweaked a bit (maybe find a better way of handling weapon names in order to avoid conflicts, have default squads for each weapon set). Replays support should be tested better and probably also tweaked a bit for better usability.

Civilians (with knives) vs. aliens, or xcom is fun and funny.
"Turns out they didn't want to be saved after all."
"Damn Cult of Sirius."
