Selmak
I've just wrapped up a whole bunch of missions, and a quick fast-forward to the end of the month shows that even more UFOs will be up for grabs. Thanks to XComUtil, I was able to use an Interceptor to perform ground assault while my Skyranger refuelled. The reason for the haste was that these UFOs were landed, and on an infiltration mission. There's no guarantee of course, that these assaults will stop the infiltration; indeed, when I got to the end-of-month report it said that France had signed a pact with the aliens anyway, and there was an alien base in Russia However, given that looting the UFOs has netted $10M or more, I guess I can't complain. I guess that July is also a turning point of sorts in my game because I'm making use of psionics, building Firestorms and plasma beams, and generally giving the aliens a good thrashing. This is going to be the month that wins the game, even though I won't be able to get an Avenger built until late in August, and maybe not go to Cydonia until much later. The only thing that could put my grand plans on hold is if the supply of UFOs dries up, and even then I have a couple of alien bases on the map that I could do a smash-n-grab on I just thought it was interesting that the aliens decided to pick the same month to ramp up their offensive. Redbull
July? For me it is January. Last Game I played at the second difficult level. So it should be an easy one.First: I almost lost my first Base ( EU ) to the aliens after two base attacks in January ( 8th and 23th ). Second: At the end of Februar I lost the USA to the aliens. ( First Base in Europe, was building my second in the USA. Hangar One was almost ready. )How should I be able to stop two Large Battleships, one Large and a Small ( large version ) in Februar? All I had were two Interceptor and no Plasma Beams. When I won the game in November I had lost the USA, Australia, Japan, India, Brasil to the aliens. Started a new game, and what should i say, Jan 7th Aliens attack my base...At least i captured a sectiod navigator from the small ufo I shoot one day before. Use the collectors edition and max ufo defense exe. MfGRedbull Edited March 3, 2006 by Redbull

How do you do it?
Hobbes
Wow, I can't figure out how to get an alien containment built in less than 18 days. How do you do it? XComUtil allows you to use an upgraded starting base (w/Alien Containment, Large Radar, etc.)
Smokey McDope
Isn't that cheating, then? Not much point to play higher difficulties if you use editors to give you stuff when you aren't supposed to have it.

Not much point to play higher difficulties if you use editors to give you stuff when you aren't supposed to have it. I wouldn't call it cheating (as opposed to editing the weapons/soldiers stats or giving yourself a billion, which XComUtil doesn't allow), but yes it makes things easier for you at the start. And it is an option that you can use or not. Personally I prefer to give the aliens a chance: no use of psi-amps, restricted use of blaster bombs and some options that XComUtil has to make the game harder. Kratos
Indeed complexity is enjoyable. I'll get myself human weapons all the way. Edited March 14, 2006 by Kratos
Bullet-Tooth Tony
I don't see, why an Alien Containment and a Large Radar are really that useful in the very beginning of the game. What's the point in researching live aliens in the very beginning? Yes, a Navigator and Sectoid Commander/Leader will give you HW Decoder and PSI respectively. But it will still be a good idea to get Laser rifle and Personal Armour first... While you're researching it, you'll get the Containment complete and will be free to capture anybody you want.Large Radar is not a really big deal either - well, you will have less detection for 25 days. You can use your ships to extend it - it's useful, wether you already have a LR or not. It's more about saving you $1 200 000, which is more like "real" cheating.Anyway, I enjoy breaking through starting difficulties probably even more, than playing with full access to advanced tech. And also, the more you have in the beginning - the less fun you get from aquiring something.
