Well, when the going gets tough, you could always use the heavy thermic lance. I swear this baby is SWEET! With minimum TUs, it can deal a great amount of damage, even to them most armoured aliens, such as the Triscene and the Lobstermen(1 Sonic Blasta Riffle Snap Shot=2 Heavy Thermic Lance Attacks)!!!

Yep, one well placed sonic grenade and it is "night night " for the big dino. Ditto for the Xarquid snail/squid thing. Forget wasting ammo on these things. A disrupter missile also words quite well.

The HTL is a must with lobstermen. I usually don't even bother with anything else. They aren't that great of a shot and don't move around much so usually you can work your way up close and get your HTL attacks in with little or no damage. I use the HTL with Tasoths as well as they can be pretty tough to put down in the close quarters of a sub or base. :naughty: :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:

I know that they show up cause a freind of mine said he saw a big 4 sqaure alien and he said when they did a autopsy that it had a small brain so i instantly thought triscene. I asked him bout it later and he sad that it had a fair bit of health and looked like a dinosaur so i know it was a triscene. I just want to see one but i havent seen one yet eventhough ive done the first 2 levels of T'Leth (before i got sick of looking for 1 lien that i couldnt find) 1 alien base, about 5 ship attacks, about 7 land attacks and countless subs (well over 100) but i still havent seen one. Even when i used to play when i was about 10 and i finished the original game (not CE) about 5 times i never saw one. I guess that it is pure luck.

The thing is, if you hit the aliens pretty hard (and it's easy to do in easy difficulty), I think they go low on resources and towards the end, they can't use good units for offense (hence, you get terror sites with gillmen instead of lobstermen or tasoth). I think triscene only appears with the more difficult races (lobstermen and tasoth) so if you attack the aliens hard with easy difficulty, it is harder for it to show up.

Alien resources are infinite, so hitting the aliens hard will not reduce anything (apart from activity generation, if we're talking about colonies).

As for Triscene, they appear on Tasoth land missions and Mixed crew land missions.

As for being weak against grenades, not only do they have low under-armour, they take 4x (well, 3 point something) more damage than any other aliens on account of being a large unit. A magna blast or a GC-HE shell will kill it easily.

Use a mind probe and scan all the aliens you fight. Some of them have certain weak points and strong points you want to know about. For examle, the Tentaculat has some very impressive front armour on superhuman (50 or so). However, if you want to cause the best damage (especially with weaker weapons like gauss pistols/rifles or the vibroblades), you'll want to hit them in the rear or sides to maximise your damage.

Under-armour is almost always a weak spot for aliens - heck, a superhuman lobsterman can get hurt with a GC-HE shell, albeit only slightly (a few points of damage for the first time damage is done, more on the next, etc.).

I've had Triscene appear on Lobsterman cruise ship missions too

They only take 30% of the damage dealt by high explosives. They can sometimes survive a DPL torpedo, however you can actually defeat them with the Gas Cannon and HE shells, but it takes a lot of shots before even a beginner level Lobsterman soldier will fall.

Magna Blast grenades would take too long. Sonic Pulsers on the other hand aren't too bad at crippling them, but you'd still need to layer a few pulsers on the lobsterman for them to be effective.

Use stun damage and drills to defeat them quickly. That means the shok bombs and the various drills are your answers for long range and close range combat. Once they are stunned, then a magna blast will defeat them easily.
