Plot Levels?

What do you mean? How do you get to complete 'story specific' levels? Or how do you get to try them?

 

They appear after a certain amount of time and if you conquer certain provinces I think. To get better armour you need to be fighting reticulans (basically aliens - NOT transgens) To do this - take out UFOs that appear. To detect UFOs you need research.

 

I would take on the v small and small UFOs - the reticulans are NOT nice in combat,k esp later in game. For example plot specific missions are best taken ASAP, otherwise you risk the game giving the aliens too good weapons, and believe me - they KNOW how to use them.

 

They can get advanced grenade launchers etc etc, which can wipe your squad out it seconds. Not to mention psi. Not to spoil it too much, just continue plodding along and fight some aliens - nick their armour, research it, and build it. That simple. Just go easy on the RPGs - you need them ALIVE. LOL

Alive? Actually, RPGs don't always kill them if they have heavy armor. :)

 

And, yeah, I've been nicking aliens now. My dudes have finished the Russkie Base Mission and are kicking some serious alien donkey.

 

Lost two guys in this... one to a multitude of unlucky crits, the other to being too close to a Alien Rocket Launcher explosion.

 

In other news... Basic Alien armor sucks pretty badly compared to even combat armor.

 

For anyone new, try getting Sky/Sun armor ASAP.

you think THAT is the good stuff - while I could be bothered to play I was aiming for bio armour and higher :D

 

There is always more to go..... and each armour is specialised for a specific purpose. And yes, I reloaded - but I never lost a man... (wonder why...)

Yeah, those missiles do give me a headache. I have just learnt to spread my men out a bit. But please tell me how to do that inside the UFOs? Please...PLEASE!!!! ARRRRRGGH!!

 

On a lighter note, I remember one mission in particular. There were the snipers, the missile carriers and oh the psi, oh the psi. Thank god the rocks protected me a bit. Then, the ceaseless use of medikits. Then the counter attack led by my primary soldier and his super grenade launcher. Two out of 4 remaining soldiers laid on a HUGE burst of grenade fire taking out around 6/8 reticulans who were snipers . They got taken out, and were unconscious. I had two men out of 8 awake, they got medikits out and healed 2 guys, with alien plasma or something. One reticulan with bio/sky armour came round the rock with a grenade launcher. He fired. He missed!! My men ran and began firing. He went down. Another sky came round the rock. Fired. Fired again. My men screamed in agony, but were still moving. HE was down!! Oh the momentous occassion, I was winning- there can't be any more of these guys left!! It is only a UFO for god's sake!! I heal my men, and move them round the rock. BLAM all dead...... why....WHAT the £$"!£$"£$!!!! AAARRRRGGGHH

 

I think I have missed a few of the finer points, but you get the idea.

 

The (russian) I think plot mission (second one) went even worse. Imagine about 25 missiles being fired at you at the same time. NOT good. In fact, on the first plot mission I had to restart the entire game several times to get the aliens on a low enough level to fight them. I think the plot levels are way too hard.

Oooh, the russian one was a *****, that missile shower made me had to start over like 20 times, I had to quit that mission and keep on playing, I managed to get those deployable turrets, with those I could kill them before they launched missiles, but the crap is that the soldier has to deploy it every single time he wants to fire, and that takes a lot!

The Russian mission was pretty easy for me because I had someone with Heroic Observation and Marksmanship with Excellent Aliens skill, packing a ZWI Falcon.

 

One shot... one kill. He took out the starting R/L guy in my draw...

 

I then used my grenadiers to bust down the base wall and charge in, grenades firing on burst.

 

Besides, the ARL is pretty wimpy compared to, say, the SLAW.

 

And that's a fact. :D

Kneel. If you have a patch with high enough version number, it deploys the gun and keeps it deployed :devilburn: While I still had my machine gunners down to low health, they worked wonders! Wonders, I say!

Oh, it took me ages to figure out the machine guns. *deploy!!! DEPLOY DAMMIT!!* uh sorry sir it don't work!!! *DAMN YOU!*

:D you get the drift. Still, the plot missions were hard. Maybe I should restart the game, and take them all on again.... hmmm
