In the UFOFAQ (written by Kasey CHang), section 8.1.3, it says:

8.1.3 How do I improve stats of soldiers?

"Try to always take a couple of rookies along to give them experience to

boost their stats. In XCOM, you learn by doing. You want more strength?

Carry heavy stuff. More accuracy? Take more shots. Soldiers with kills

gain more than those without kills."

And, in addition to that, I've come across a few of these "tips":

How to gain HEALTH?

-get shot more

How to gain BRAVERY?

-get panicked more

HEY, have you given your "new recruits" blaster-bomb-resistance-training ?

Ever wonder how a real-life infantry squad falls in when the number of men isn't divisible by 3?

That's how.

if x mod 3 = 1, where x is the number of troops:

******

* ****

* ****

if x mod 3 = 2:

******

* ****

******

In the end I decided to "sack" them. They weren't resistant enough to mind control ;)

X-Com's latest batch of victi^H^H^H^H^Hrecruits arrive at their assigned destination...

Actually, there's a thread for posting your base designs. I'd like to see this one.

I think the bravery one actually does work.

If you survive it would be funny if health worked that way.

Health does work that way :)  At least here it does.  Besides remeber the golden rule :) that if it doesn't kill ya, ...

I though the golden rule was do unto others?

:) Nah that rule doesn't work good with X-Com because I want to blast aliens but I don't want to get blasted :)

Not nessessarily. If they Blast unto you, I should expect that you will Blast unto them.

Actually, I think the aliens just disappear. You knolw that's anouther thing, if you've got tons of soldiers sitting around in your containment there's no way to ditch them other than researching them.

I mean the public knows nothing about the project, shouldn't we be able to dispatch them forthwith?

"Ever tried Xarquid sushi?"

- from a TFTD strategy guide

Note that in Xcom3 you can manage your alien containment in a fairly detailed manner. It does get a little time-consuming though, so what I suggest is an options menu within the alien containment screen. For each alien type you have in containment, there'll be a little checkbox saying "Keep only 1 of this type of alien". So if you get more than 1 Sectoid soldier, the excess will be automatically "taken care of".

oh, right... just saw yr earlier post about the base design, Stewart. It's nothing special; I just built a row of 3 hangars at the "top" of the base, one access lift in the default position, axed the structure to the right of the access lift, and then built everything below.

Like this:

HHHHHH

HHHHHH

..L...

.XXXXX

.XXXXX

.XXXXX

where X is "all the other facilities".

After that, I put fusion defenses and a gravshield in, like so:

HHHHHH

HHHHHH

DDLDDD

DXXXXX

DXXXXX

GXXXXX

:) probably?  We could also make aliens give out other information maybe.  Maybe something they plan to do like uh send an alien diplomat to Berlin on may 5 at 3:21 kind of stuff.  Could be useful that way.  :) Oh I think aliens should be sold to MC Donalds ;)

Hey that sounds like a good idea! But then not only do have to create a logical alien strategy but it has to be recorded well in advance. On the other hand that only works if the aliens are computer controlled only.

I think the current X-Com 1 and 2 generate events way in advance. I notice this from the bug that just exits the game sometimes and will still do that if you also reload that version or a load file a bit earlier at the exact same time. Also when ya save just before a terror zone those come up at the same time too and so do aliens searching for your base. Should be no problem to make the remake like that we just generate events and the time they should happen and then push them into a queue. or something.

I noticed on 'predetermined event' on my game where at the end of the month the UK kept sigining a treaty with the aliens. Now since my base is in the Alps (and therefore pretty close by) I was always good about nabbing the aliens over the UK and getting to any terror missions quickly so I did a little investigating.

I checked the activity graphs (both before and after the month end) sent skyrangers over the UK to look for bases, and found nothing out of the ordinary. I did everything I could think of short of building another base to keep them, but every time I reloaded the UK signed a treaty. So getting suspicious I opened up the game editor and looked under the diplomacy setting. Sure enough the rating I had with them was a "3" before the end of the month... so in defiance of the games wishes I used the editor to "bring back" the UK to me the next month, and they haven't "signed" another treaty yet! :)

Probably you missed a UFO which landed in London, perhaps before your save game. I had a similar experience, in my case I saw UFOs land in Karachi and Tehran but lost India.

I think terror sites are fun also. Recovery gets boring after awhile and starts to become easy to where they're just there to fill in the gap (and replenish your stock of sales items and elerium) between the more interesting missions like alien invasions and terror sites.

How many times do you find yourself thinking, "oh yah, another time wasting UFO to manuever through"? Where you'd just assume not bother except you need the supplies and want to keep your rating high.

I guess I like the other two types of missions because it feels like more is at stake and it feels more like big battle. :uzzi:

You don't need more than a gravshield, a mindshield aand 3 fusiondefences. Thats more than enough.

Only little defenses, just let them come and trash them in our own soil... :uzzi: (And collect a lot of Elerium in the process :P )

It seems the aliens don't even need to land to sign pacts, they only have to have the ships fly over the country. I once scrambled every fighter I had that could reach Europe when a few ships came in with the intent to make pacts, and not a one landed (had a base in Europe with a hyperwave decoder, so I wouldn't have missed one landing). None actually made it to the ground... in one piece :devillaugh:, but at the end of the month the UK went with the aliens (at least they didn't get France, they were paying 4 mil a month at the end of the game I just finished).

Have you ever played the AMIGA version?

The hyper wave decoder has a blind spot if you put it in a certain base square!!!

A battle ship attacked my base and i didnt even see it coming!

ALso on the battlescape the if you mind probe a sectoid medic it sometimes tells u its a snake man!

That's because sectoids are SO stupid :alienoooh: that mind probe can't recognize them at all.
