What about using an FSO or browser based game to accompany UFO2000?
I dont have the slightest idea as far as those things work, but maybe someone else does?
even having something Apoc style browser game would be very cool

I'm not super knowledgeable of these matters either, but to me this actually sounds like a pretty good idea... If I'm not mistaken, the UFO2000 server already communicates with a database to store the account information of players... Perhaps the same database could be used to store information about weapons and units and such, and then people could comfortably use a browser to shop for the stuff and manage their team etc. And then they would use the UFO2000 client to fight battles like they have always done before. This would seem like a nice and doable way to incorporate MMO-like persistent metagame elements into UFO2000, even if it were a far cry from being an actual geoscape.

Yeah, exactly what I was thinking.
To take a look at the possibilities of what this could be i checked out a few games such as
Star Wars Combine
http://www.swcombine...ty/features.php
This is a browser based game where you can alter the maps and even travel in real time. Its kind of neat but unfinished.
and
Utopia
http://games.swirve.com/utopia/
This game has a huge player base and is very simple. it seems like its quite fun, although ive only played for a couple of days now.

for an idea to be alive, somebody needs to provide a driving force for it. if you give up, it would be dead for sureguess this idea is dead
you know that we have had server related problems and have not completely recovered from it yet and some services are not working now. i hope that everything will be fixed soon.
in the mean time, you could try to describe what is needed for 'ufo online' to operate and what changes to the server would help to improve it

If i had the skills to do this I would. To be honest, its just an idea that I threw out there hoping that someone would pick it up.
I dont know what would go into it, and i dont know how it would work.
if its dead its dead, no biggy.
