ATeX
more tense? I'd say less... In the original X-Com Ufo Defense there wasn't any tension in the geoscape. Listen to it and u know what I mean. Or isn't this what u want to achieve?
Tiskaite
i dont know what i want to achieve, just as long as it is somehow close to the original geoscape
ATeX
then it has to be less tense, because the original is very calm, no stress, just a comfortable background music
SupSuper
indeed, since managing your game isn't exactly tense... except when your budget sucks
Breunor
Actually you want a balance of calm and tense in the game, just like suspense movies do. Imagine a movie where every bit of music is dramatic, "he's about to stab you!" kind of music, after a few minutes it would wear you out. Same here, you need a relaxing sound outside of battle, so when you enter battle and the tense music starts, your brain responds to it. Then you are released after the fight and can relax again in the geoscape. Check out www.mp3.com, and look in the space-ambient section if they still have one, I think that would provide an appropriate feel for a geoscape. Of course the music can vary in there, but my impression the last time I browsed there was of a calming, yet 'out-there' feeling.

MagicAndy
Breunor's right about the tense/calm/tense bit. In the original onceyou got back to the geo-scape you needed a sort of ...phew! Shortly before a *phsssst!* "Alien Terror site in the dead of night detected". This can be emphasised a lot by using the music.
