XCOMUFO & Xenocide

Translation

I don't know if this topic was discussed before, but I didn't find anything about it. Will Xenocide be available in different langages, like the X-Com? Or, at least, will the text be stored quite separately, in order to allow potential translations in future versions?

I may be imagining it, but IIRC it was mentioned somewhere that any people willing to translate it were welcome to join the team.

If I made that up, then I should get the credit for the idea! :D

A more senior person could be more clear.

No you dont made that up. Even though it is not currently a high priority task we will be developing with that in mind, storing the resources in a easy to modify way.

Mhhh, for programmers out there I have a task involving translation support (read: string resource manager) to implement... I hear for volunteers.

Well, I guess if you need it that I can help for a french translation (at least from creative text and the like, for which you don't need to dive into the code and program specific parts to prevent text leaking for example).

The idea is to have all translatable resources in a separate modules. The module (read the spoken language) will be selected during the installation of the game and appropriate resources will laid down on the file system.

We need to work out the official process for translating the resources (as well as testing and certification) and then everyone willing to do such work is welcome to proceed. Proved resources will be included in our installation program (and hopefully available separately on the web).

We can use the PAQDevelopersTable object of the PAQ Managing code as a database of string names, with some modifications...
It is basically the same thing except that strings are indexed by crc instead of a unique index.

Why we want the user to select the language in the installation process? We can put an option inside the game.. it's better !

PS I can help with italian

I think the idea is that the relevent language files would get copied to the game dir, so that you dont have to copy them all. Plus it makes the references to the strings easier, as far as I can tell.

Mhhh Exio, this is not the right place to discuss this... Lets move the discussion to programming forum. About using PAQDevelopersTable... Maybe the functionality is similar, but not equal, and I dont want to overconstrain the system doing it in that way... So the answer is no.
