true coz im like very close to that host and still i get no mo than 17kb/sec per file

Wow! I managed to download intermission....

 

I dig your style Jow this is exactly what we need for combat music... !

 

What software are you using... for this kind of music I tend to use audiomulch and CEP2...

 

Feels like we're gonna get a lot of tracks for this project... as I already said, we need as much as we can handle, I'd be glad to work with you!

I use mainly reason2, some times fruityloops (it has a granulizer). And for sound editing I use Sound Forge.

 

Xcen, your ambient music songs are a bit short, only 40 seconds. Make 'em a little longer, like 4-30 minutes. I liked them. They were good.

 

The ambient music songs I made are used in my doom-mod project. If you like them, they could be used in xenocide too.

 

But I'd like to make new music for xenocide.

4-30 minutes?! You crazy?! The size of that file would be huge!

Anyway ambient music are often short but loopable "songs"

yeah, yeah... me crazy. If one makes an ambient song for a cd then it can be long... and it depends. Not all should be 30 mins.

 

I usually make songs that are 5-13 minutes long.

 

The combat music should be longer than 40 secs. Usually combats take much longer than that.

 

The interceptor combat music can be short. They usually end in 40 secs at most.

Seriously, I think it can be a good idea to giver users the choice... this project won't see a full working beta before at least two year... this is a lot of time for us to do music (we are four working on this) so I could understand that you want a small download package... but I don't think it is much trouble having an optional bigger music pack (or is it?)

hmm one more thing... good idea to have randomly ordered prerendered loops, gives variety without any space overuse :)

I didnt say the music had to be 30 secs and looping!! and if i did i take that back...

Anyhow; I think that 3-4 minutes for each track would be sufficient, as the music is going to change according to whats happening, and we all know that A LOT can happen during the course of this mighty fine game that everbody loves to death. <- had to do some xcom advertising there

The 10-30 minute long songs are for trance and mediatation.

2-6 minutes are just fine for a game.

10-50 secs are for a fast and scary events.

 

Ok?

Makes a lot of sense to me although I rarely use music while meditating.. perhaps I should.

 

So far I have been working on pre and post battlescape themes and alittle bit on the intro but this last one will wait 'til we agree on the intro script.

 

We plan to have dynamic music corresponding to events and I have been thinking that we should do different themes for the races and all...

 

It's not very structured yet, I guess I should be working on a plan. (that means I will welcome any ideas you have about this).

 

Feel free to upload whatever you think is suiting and we'll give our opinion on it and on where we think it would be cool to be heard (ugh that last sentence was ugly)

 

oh please change your host if you can, it's really really slow from where I am :)

Do you know any "faster" hosts that are fast in everywhere? The current host is fast for me. Partly for that I'm living in Finland.

 

I'll start making some ambient music this weekend after I've finalized the alien model.

imo estonian host should be fast fo everyone :) ...thats not a fact :D and coz i really dont give a shuckeroonies aboot some server ill even post one here :) www.zone.ee (its only in estonian but it shouldnt be too much of a prob for you :) afterall you are a neightbour to us)

 

edit: forgot that it offers free accounts with 25mb server space (unlimited nr of accounts) but i dont know if there is any bandwidth limit (i dont if anyones ever even reached it :) )
