Photoshop Tools

i made some "actions" with Adobe Photoshop CS. i don't know how much older your version of photoshop may be in order to be able to use them... just try it...

"actions" in photoshop are simple scripts that can be created by recording what you are doing, than using playback later on. this way you can automatize steps you would have to do over and over again.

i made two basic actions for creating tiles:

"floor":

1) just take any square texture of 400x400 pixels (your your own texture is smaller, scale it up to 400x400) and

2) copy paste it into the file floor.psd. the texture should be in layer 1 then.

3) now open the actions rulebar (this is a tab in history toolbar) and select "load action" from the toolbars menu. load the action set "ufo tiles" and then open the set. 4) select "floor" and click on play.

and voila: just some seconds later (depending on cpu speed, with modern machines it should be almos instantly) you've got a floor tile with exactly the same measurements as the template.

copy and paste this one into your tile-file and then delete layer 1 before you paste in the next texture.

"walls":

1) just take any rectangular texture of 300x500 pixels (or scale your texture to fit 300x500 pixels) and

2) copy paste it into the file "wall.psd". (should be layer 1 then)

3) if you did already load the action set, you need not do this again. if not, do it as described in step 3 of "floor" above.

4) select the action "walls" and click on play.

and voila: you get two walls, one left and one right, with the left wall already darkened and additionally you get a corner connection piece.

copy and paste your new tiles into your tile-file.

again don't forget to delete layer 1 before inserting the next texture.

you can now give your tiles the last finish per hand editing (transparent parts of windows shouldn't be made tranparent until now for example, floor tiles may need some editing to make them repeatable without visible seams, etc.)

this actions come in a .zip for windows users:

or as .tar.gz for the linux people:

since i already made these for myself i thought maybe someone else can use them too.

i will do some scripts to automatically convert high-res to low res tiles (and the other way around) too. since there is no high res support yet, and i don't know for how long it will stay that way, all my tiles will be scaled down to be able to use them with actual ufo2000 versions.

the large tiles will stay stored at my hard-drive until some nice day they maybe will be put to use.

sorry, there was some error in the first walls script. (problems with a missing "set selection" line...)

which lead to the result that only right walls did get scaled down correctly.

here's a fixed .atn:

damn... cant add it as attachement it seems...

i'll just rename it...

take care, this is NOT a zip file. just edit the file-name and replace the .zip part with .atn again, and it should be usable ;)

just had to do this, because the forum won't let me upload .atn filetypes and i see not much sense in compressing a 9k file

edit: see next post for all-in-one fixed download
