I got an idea - when a fusion bomb explodes, it will explode almost in bullet time. Every object will be sent of flying and every living thing will be disintigrated - like:

heck yeah.

Use some kickass particle FX and lighting and stuff too.

 

But make the beginning of the explosion in normal speed so it's like:

BO-*slow motion*-OOOOOOOOOOOOOM. It'd be an awesome opportunity for some ragdoll physics (who cares if dead bodies don't go flying 6 feet in reality?). And make the things close to the explosion "skeletalise" like UT2004 when you fall into lava. Explosions of blood and gibs are a requirement also. The original UT did a extremely great job of portraying stuff getting gibbed. UT2004 is only good due to ragdollness. For this, destructable environments are a must. And also, the type of lighting that casts shadows and doesn't just go straight through stuff would be nice. And the explosion particle FX should be sprite-based. Mesh particle FX always look worse for some reason. Also, I have another idea. Blood/bullet hole/scorch mark decals/projectors should be applied where people/things gets damaged. In most games living things don't have decals on them for some reason.

heck... just for that reason every soldier of my squad will have blasterbombs...

 

but the skeletal thing will require some more work... like the skeleton model and such...

 

plus new ones for aliens... unless you want the aliens to have human skeletal structure...

 

the pixel damage thing sounds plausable but poor programming guys :P

i still like the idea :D

i think its called pixel hit technology and it will make a "bullet hole" in the spot you shot the object...

 

i know half-life 2 has it as well as rainbow six 3...

 

My video card doesnt support it though.. so i dont know for sure how many games have it...

I think the game would be fine with "normal" explosions. I liked the ones in the original. You could see a screaming face in the fire on a really slow computer. That's cool. I'd rather the game get done some time soon rather than a few years later with better explosions and stuff. Besides, in a few years, half life 2 graphics wouldn't cut it anymore. You'd have to improve them again to be comparable with half life 3 or whatever. The game would never be "good" enough and it would never get done.
