Ultimately ufo2000 would like to use free licensed artwork in the distributive, so if you are going to create new map and tilesets, they would be of the most value if they were based off of freely licensed prior works. Note, I'm pretty sure that the xcom and tftd demos do not fall under the category of freely licensed artwork. While they may be free of cost I suspect that they are not free of copyright and legal restrictions.

Hobbes is definitely a great person to ask about map and tileset modifications (see Area 51 mapsets). Good luck, and enjoy.

I have already done some work on an original tileset not based on any copyrighted material from X-Com, although it has stalled somewhat, partly because I have concentrated on other graphics-related issues and partly out of sheer lack of time and motivation.

Maybe you could help finishing the set, or make your own set that could be used jointly with my work. Not that there is much difference, as there is really no practical reason to divide the tiles into sets, like they were in original X-Com; The tiles I have made are currently contained in one large file, but they could as well be held in separate files, one individual tile in each. You may choose to follow my approach or do it the other way.

This issue on the bug tracker contains more information/discussion on the matter, as well as download links to a template you might find useful as well as the existing tileset itself.

- I have a job to do now , i forgot about making hand sprites for guns in the weapon pack. As soon as im done with them i will start on the tiles project. BTW IMO all tiles should be set in a single set , i see no reason for seperate sets coz it allows variation in level design.

BTW by 'base my designs' i mean make similar tiles too from scratch. Not remodel , just to clear that up :)
