Could have won it at any time but I was watching the dates to see if they'd remain wrong; Feb 31, come on!

Does that comment leave much options? :D Well she's young (unknown warrior I mean) and inexperienced on forum behaving rules so you have to forgive her  Yeaaah, of course I won't say it wouldn't be possible, I'm just saying like micah, zip and attach the saved game and I'll believe you. Proove us wrong! ^_^

2005 sounds possible -_- 2050 is like playing years and years for the same game.

I voted >2002. But come on, I am waaay past that right now. The most current screenie I have is Aug 2006: Date.png

Still going strong though... right now, the date is Jan 2007! I'm itching to get to 2008 to see if the next leap-year is also flawed! :)

I don't remember when I did...all I remember is destroying Cydonia too many times :OhBrother:

Frankly, it never mattered to me...so I never looked. Now I don't play xcom 1 practically at all anymore...I play ufo2000 instead. :)

Nice necromancy, Zombie :P

Wow, the Aliens are no longer trying to invade, I think now you are the invader there!

Nope, I was aiming for 30 alien bases, but so far I can only see 27 after intense partolling with my Skyrangers. Still, I needed those alien bases so that I could nab the Supply Ships and get some serious points to impress Russia. :)

Right now, I'm up to June 2007. Pity that I can't find a screenie anywhere in my directory. Must remember to press F12 more often. :)

I haven't found more than 29 alien bases so far in my current game, even though I'm sure I'd seen Mutons and Ethereals trying to set up shop in South America. Patrols didn't turn up squat. I'm thinking one will pop into existance the moment I take out one of their bases, like they're just in a que waiting to be placed. Current game so far is in year 2001, though I think I've played beyond that before.

hmmm, on Strategycore NKF i think said that there can be a maximum of like 50 objects on the geoscape screen. Zombie has been trying to reach that for a while to see what happens when he reaches it. Maybe you've reached teh 50 objects threshold

Once I get Cydonia, I save in a special slot and then ignore everything but Retaliation Battleships. Wait until I have one country left, then go on Cydonia. It adds to the mood on Cydonia, more of a desperate last stand mission. As it is, it's kind of pointless how if you bring one of your 4 Avengers armed with 1 soldier without armor or weapons and he dies, the whole game goes down.

I hadn't thought of the object limit, but it sounds right. Despite the apparent fixed base counts, there's invariably a crash site not visited or a ship object or three in the air. I'm going through my game now, systematically taking out their bases one by one. Its also the start of a new month and I've not seen a new base building mission, so I'm going to see if the previous no-base is a base now.

Just a bit of food for thought:

Your ships (even if they're docked) and current waypoints also count towards the Geoscape item limit.

Indeed, I have now reached Feb 2008 and that month is flawed just like Feb 2004 is. Both have 31 days! Take a look at my screenie for February:

Feb_31__2008.png

The programmers must have figured nobody would go beyond the year 2003 and got lax on the calendar a bit. Clearly they never met someone like me before. I would have told them to program those dates in because I will exceed the January 2004 limitation they imposed. Tsk, tsk! :NoNo: :)

It's likely that the game would give you slots for 8 bases and leave 27 for alian bases. Then the other 15 can be held in reserve for any possible alian or human craft.

So not that there are 15 ships on screen at all times, but that they have been saved so the game doesn't have to delete a base if you send out a ship or some such.

Or perhaps you have 15 ships in dock, so the game is set to stop you from sending all you ships out and overloading the geoscape. To test that you can build another ship then try and scramble them all at once.

Well, thanks in part to NKF's help, I am looking into this right now.

Hmm, I only know of 5 Geoscape tokens so far. Being:

UFO

X-Com Craft

Alien Base

X-Com Base

Craft Waypoint

X-Com ships and UFOs are still counted even if they are not visible.

- NKF

That should help a bit. :)

So, now that I've been thinning the herd so to speak, by taking down some alien bases, the aliens don't send any more base building UFOs?

Even if they don't, can bases still appear?

I've just had several infiltration mission battleships come into Europe and I let themland in Madrid - just wondering if I can expect an alien base to show up next month or if its just meant to be an activity point thing.

My game so far is in mid to late 2002 or so and I've only seen 30 alien bases in total (the last wouldn't appear until I took one out).

That brings up an interesting point. From my research into this, I found that once the aliens fill their "queue" of bases, they would build no more. On top of this, if you take out an alien base after the limit was met, the aliens will not build any more bases to fill it up again. Maybe the game figures that once you have been able to survive with that many bases present (read: constant huge drain from your points), you are entitled to live happily once you take them all out.

This still needs some more testing to verify, but it is interesting. :)

I think your right about the point on more testing. I just saw base #31 appear in Europe after that infiltration by those two or three battleships. At the turn of the month I got the 'your agents have discovered a base' thing.

So, I'm thinking that, even if you do not see explicitly - "Alien Base" missions being carried out, infiltration missions can generate them as well. I'm now into mid February of 2003 and no other bases have turned up yet however. Probably because I stopped the last two battleship infiltration missions because I needed some elerium & reaction training :)

I think I'll go the rest of 2003 in my game of leaving the infiltration ships alone and see what happens. I'll also not be doing any patrols. I want to see how many more of those 'agent' messages I get at the turn of the month for bases being detected. Although with this last type of test, I should probably start another game from scratch and avoid patrolling.
