guys im very happy when i figure out this project. can you tell me what exacly i have to do to play online with my friend? (both have the game and the ufo2000 and then?)

if i want to install a beta version o first have to install a stable?

i have the standard and the gold edition. how i can install them on windows xp?

The maps are created randomly?

it depends. the most of the terrains create maps randomly, but in some terrains (for example - Hobbes' "Skyranger Factory") the maps are preconstructed

how i can connect in the server? it says that the username exists and when i try to write something else it doesnt write in english. (i cant ever write a dot it writes something else.like old english language)

Try different names, and be sure to have a password 5 or more characters long. :) Be sure to not forget your password, because user names are protected now so nobody can get in your user name. Edited by Kratos

Kratos, it seems from the snapshot that Exoskeletor tried to login as anonymous, so his problem with "existing username" is probably because of that.

 

Exoskeletor, if you need, here are servers addresses: lxnt.info:2000 for the stable version, lxnt.info:2001 for the beta.

the main program is that ican write in english. (i have set both primary and secondary to us)

For example the below username is the "abcdef" but it is "encrypted" :D

(im using the latest beta. i should try to use the latest stable version?)

 

EDIT: ok the problem was that keyboard was ru on the ini. why this is not us by default?

i have just play my first game. i have a lot of questions :) :

why i cant hear the exlosion sound and the gun loading sounds? (when you are loading your rocket lancher for example, i cant play without those sounds.)

There are a lot to be made i guess. (fly mode, tanks etc)

Can we play without the map and if you want to see it to press a button for it? with the map my pleyers seems so small(i know whhat we can disable the map with the shift but the resolution is still high)

It could be good if you add a plasma cannon somewhere randmly in the level so the man who find it first win. (or maybe a whole mode without weapons, the players should find them :) it sounds funny)

6x6 is still small for me

there are now gun loading sounds (as far as i remember) in x-com, and ufo2000 uses only its sounds; however, there are explosion sounds. maybe the sounds just hadn't loaded? this may happen if the ufo2000 window doesn't have focus while loading; also check your volume settings. are there any sounds at all?

do you mean flying suits by "fly mode"? then it's there. and you guess it right, there is a lot things to be implemented. you can check our bugtracker: http://ufo2000.lxnt.info/mantis/

you can "press a button to see it" - just use shift+left/right arrows to show/hide the map.

please use bugtracker (link above) to post bugs and suggestions - it's easier to monitor them when they're kept in one place. of course, a number of things has been reported already, so you should check it when posting (though this one hasn't been reported, if i'm not mistakened)

it is a technical limit, and quite large modifications are required to get over it. we're gradually preparing to release a new stable version at the moment, so most likely this limit will be present at least until we make the new stable version.

and anyway, will the gameplay be better if larger maps will be supported? it's a discussionable question.

well it the real war you dont have the enemy on the next block.. if some users dont like it they can still select 6x6 but why not to have maps so big like in the game?

 

X-xom ufo enemy unknown has sounds when you was loading all your weapons(at least the amiga version that i have play has).this hasnt. i have sound

 

Are we going to see maps with alien ships?

 

Is the next stable version going to be released soon?

 

In the main page you said that obody of us has access to non x86 hardware. i have amd64 and windows xp x64 edition. can somehow help you on anything?

I completely agree with Owl when he says it is a discussionable question. X-COM was a squad, turn-based game. And it is normal for 2 squads to be fighting off on a single city block.

The question about gameplay is the most important, considering that the game is turn-based, not in real time. Larger maps give you more space to maneuver (which is something excellent in my opinion for they allow for more tactical options to explore) but they also take more time to play.

Plus, what you are looking for can already be experienced: try playing a 60x60 map with only 5k....there will be a lot more space to move with less units.

I think making maps any bigger is a bad idea. Quite simply, the game engine isn't designed for it.

 

For example, the game has no system for modelling weapon ranges. If maps started getting bigger, sniper weapons start becoming extremely powerful.

 

As Hobbes sugggested, if you want a bigger playing field, play with a smaller squad.

But if the player can choose the large of the map then where is the problem? everyone will be happy, they want small maps? they will have small. they want large maps like in the original game? they will have them

The game already supports maps up to 60x60, that's a maximum size for the original X-COM too. TFTD can have maps with bigger dimensions, but not much larger - 70x30 (for ship resque missions). Do we have any reason of making maps bigger than in X-COM? That's not an engine limitation, we just do not have much screen space to display minimap when its size is very large, we can increase minimal supported screen resolution to 800x600.

i think Serge already have amd64 hardware

 

when you are playing with your friend, you can save the map with the current battle to continue playing later?as i know this work only for hotseat game.

first of all, which version are you using? then, what files exactly are you trying to load?

BTW what do you call "load" - they don't appear in the map list or "load" button doesn't load them?

im using version 6.627 nad when i click on the load button and try to load the siberia.lua it displays "invalid map file"

 

the files of the syberia are on a folder syberia btw. they must be on the new maps foilder with the lua?

it was done incorrect in the 0.6.627 that "terrain" and "geodata" files share .lua extension. you can't load that .lua, the button is for loading saved maps.

i have download the latest beta and when i click on the load button nothing happens.

 

because there are no .area files in your ufo2000 dir.

 

In the latest beta, the geoscape beta, what about it? where are we going to use it in the next releases?

We just need an additional developer who can work on this geoscape part and make it into a real playable game. What I have done just now, was a mere intergation of my old geoscape demo written ages ago. It is good that it attracted some interest at least, and now the chances of finding a new developer for working on geoscape part hopefully increased :) It was my mistake not adding this geoscape demo to the game earlier.

it would be good if it can be combined with the other game and when a player request a game with us a ufo appears in the geoscape and we send an aeroplane :) really good option. it would be good if online players can have hiden alien bases that we have to find, the opportunities are unlimited
