Heat
I asked this on the other forum but i hope to get more response here. U guys agree that ducking adds accuracy? I think it does, but i would like to know by how much. Becos ducking costs a consideration amont of time n its pretty annoying to do if u want to do it everytime u shoot. So i am hoping to find out exactly if it is worth it.
Mark0
IMO ducking increases the accuracy. You should check when you want to auto shoot, what is the accuracy, and when you duck if it changes.
Extralucas
IIRC it adds 10%. There is difference in using one or two handed weapons as well. Cos those two handed require second hand empty or you will recive accuracy penalty.
Heat
Whats IIRC? N i didnt know there r 2 hand weapons! wow! I just always hold a gun in 1 hand n a grenade or something in the other...
Extralucas
IIRC - If I Recall Correctly (or something like ). Im not sure ar those 10% added to your soldiers accuracy as 10% of his skills or maybe 10 skill points to total, or maybe 10% to weapon's accuracy... Edit: Those two handed you can recognize by their size, or by way how does your soldier hold it. Edited September 18, 2003 by Extralucas
Zomboy
Hmmm, I think pistols and grenades are the only 1 handed weapons. Course, this being TFTD, I'm not 100% sure, haven't played it in years, only UFO Defence recently. But the rifles and the heavy weapons (auto cannon, think the gas cannon, rocketlauncher) are two handed.
Heat
Holy moly n i been using cannons n rifles wif 1 hand! hahahah...Maybe i'll start hitting sh*t now. But i am managing not too bad at all. I playing the 2nd hardest lvl n i am up to december. But things are getting hard. I'll post this on a new topic
Guest Jim69
!!! u R crazy I always put the stun rod with a pistola because with the stun rod u can't miss, and the pistol is a last resort...If the bugs get close enough to make me use it I shouldn't miss anyway
j'ordos
Same here, I usually also have a pair of soldiers with pistols who are loaded up with any kind of explosive throwing device available, the more the merrier .
Heat
O thats interesting i never considered using pistols cos i tried them b4, the default once at the start n it takes like 10 shots to kill something! I dont think i ever used the sonic one b4 cos i always research the cannon 1ft I usually just hold a cannon in 1 hand n the freeze, grenade, etc on the other...I dont think using pistol is good becos its so weak? Maybe i'll try the rifle. Do u guys know if rifle is 1 handed or 2 handed?
j'ordos
The rifle is twohanded, so that won't improve the situation. But a Sonic Pistol is still much more powerful than the rifle you start with, and is enough against the easier opponents like aquatoids and gill men. And if it's not you have plenty of grenades with them . But indeed, the cannon is the weapon I use the most, I just keep some guys with a pistol and grenades, small launcher, MC reader or heavy thermic lance
Heat
I tried leaving a hand free while using 2 handed weapons. It did seemed to improved the accuracy. However i just began a new game now n doing the same with the rifle u get at the beginning but i dont think the accuracy improved at all. I had 7 guys taking turns aimed shot trynig to shoot an alien not that far away n all missed. Does any1 know how much the accuracy improves if u leave the other hand free while using a 2 handed weapon? Also just to make sure, basically everything else apart from the pistols r 2 handed correct?
Extralucas
Yeah, and accuracy improves by about 10%. Maybe your soldiers are just weak shooters? Anyway, I never use aimed. Snap Shot forever!
Heat
aha i ALWAYS miss wif snap...maybe u keep ur soliders where mine always die n 10% doesnt sound like much at all! I reckon luck is a big part.
Extralucas
Yeah. Sometime you can hit guy, nod lobsterman, with auto shot of some big nasty gan and he will still stand there laughing, and sometime you can shot with snap and kill guy situated quite far from you... Heat
Thx extralucas, btw where did u find that its 10% from? Also if u got time check my other posts needing help on them too
Extralucas
I belive I seen it in soem faq, or somewhere else... Tried to look for it but didn't find, tho.
Heat
I hope that it is accurate! But i think it is....cos didnt make that big of a difference when i tried it. Well but it really varies so its confusing...
[dipstick]
Stick with sonic cannons!!
Cpl. Facehugger
I always use heavy gausses (use xcomutil though) and thermic lances. The bugs, even lobsters don't stand a chance. Btw, what kind of armor are you using for your men heat?
Heat
I didnt really have much armour, but now i just started another game cos i ran into the stupid research bug. I am doing good now tho cos i know most of the research needed for things like armour, i got aqua armour atm n will get ion armour later I been trying out the sonic pistols which r very good early game, n also rifles. But now the stronger aliens n popping up n i am getting the sonic cannon. I also been using rifle wif 2 hands instead of 1 like i used to do ( i always held a grenade or whatever while holding a cannon in the other) n the auccracy seem to have improved a bit so its good. I havent used xcomutil b4 cos it looks like u get to modify the game a lot whch i dont like to...
Extralucas
But if game is bugged little fixing wouldn't harm anyone, IMO.
Cpl. Facehugger
Yes, xcomutil does fix some of tftd's bugs. But not the all important one- the research tree! Grrr!
Heat
So u can just fix the bugs using xcomutil n not change anything else? If so i mite give it ago....would be good just to fix the bugs n dont wanna change the other features.... n i just read the strategy guide on this site, virtually every question i have is answered there! Accuracy details are all there...now y didnt any1 know that hahahah, that steategy guide owns
Cpl. Facehugger
Heh. Yup. Xcomutil lets you pick what options you want to use. For instance, there is improved starting tanks that makes human tanks better. Or improved gauss weapons, which makes gauss more like lasers in terms of utility. Heat
Hmm c that what i am talking abt. These modification of making weapons etc better is alrdy altering the game isnt it? I think the game is pretty balanced as it is. The problems r just the bugs like tech bugs, aliens camping, crashes, etc....
j'ordos
I think the game is pretty balanced as it is.That's, of course, your opinion, but in the original I used laser weapons until the end whereas I forgo them entirely in TFTD. Same with the Coelacanths, they're practically useless without xcomutil except for scouting duty (where a rookie is much cheaper, and you can take 4 in stead ) But rest assured, you can change as much or as little as you like. If you start it up there's a series of questions, and you can reply with yes or no, like so: 'use improved starting base yes/no?', and you just pick your choice. Same with improved Gauss weapons and tanks, IIRC. Edited September 22, 2003 by j'ordos
Heat
Ahh ic...sounds good, i'm gonna give it a go next time i start a new game thx
Heat
Speaking of the coalecanth u got me thinking. I always use it now actually cos i find it a very good scout n something that sorta can just charge out n take damage. If i were to use soliders they will just die when shot, whereas the tank can take a hit n trun around, c the enemy, then i'll can my disruptors or something to kill it. I find it very useful actually I also just remembered reading the strategy guide n he recommends the disruptor tank. For some reason i never tot abt using it (maybe cos it uses zrbite i think?) but he made it sound good so i'll prolly give it a shot.
