Possible Music Fix For Tftd Ce?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I recently purchased a copy of Xcom2 TftD, CE edition, off ebay. It was a HD install and ran fine without trouble after applying the ET patch, save one thing. No music would play. I played with the various settings and install orders, but nothing seemed to work. However, as I recalled that previous downloads of TftD always work, legality issues aside, just fine including sound, I acquired a copy to try a little experiment.

Now I won't say where I got it, as the board rules frown on that, but its from a very reputable site. Never the less I installed the copy, tried it out, and it worked just as I remembered. Next for the heck of it I copied the entire contents of the sound file from the 'grey' version and pasted them into the same file on my legally acquired install. Afterwards I gave it a try, and was blessed with that haunting refrain at the main menu.

My apologies if its been covered before, or if this isn't that useful, but I wanted to put this up just in case it could help someone down the line. If anyone wants, I'll provide an upload of the files I copy/pasted, provided it doesn't violate board policy.

System specs are as follows.

Operation System: XP Home Edition (5.1 Build 2600)

BIOS: Pheonix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 bit 3500+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.2GH

Memory: 1024 RAM

DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0C

Display: Nvidia GeForce 7600 GS (Driver: nv4_dsp.dll)

Sound: Nvidia nForce Audio

Does this mean that the midi files were not present in your HD install of TFTD CE? That's very strange, but would definitely explain your missing music.

Would this be a purchase of a legit copy of TFTD CE? As far as I can remember, it was only part of the Collectors Edition and never sold separately. If you got a dodgy copy that doesn't include all the right files, then that could be the source of the problem. If it's the original, then something must've happened during the install process. As I don't have a copy I can't run a test, but what installation choices did you have?

It would appear so, since when I copied them over the music started to work perfectly fine. On a side note, I was also able to replace the normal intro sideshow with the video cinematic by the same method.

Yes, it is a legit copy as not only did I get the box with jacket and manuals, but the CD also has the TftD sticker on it. I can take a pic of the items if it'll help identify the exact version. Also I'm fairly sure its the CE edition, as other than the music it ran fine without any sort of DOS emulator.

The install options I picked was the install to hard disk, as the regular install offered by the CD failed to run for some odd reason when I tried that option. This was reached via D:MPS_AP_UK/Harddisk/Install. Oddly I tried doing a clean install a few times, always with the same result so I'm guessing my actual copy must be dodgy as you said.
