Banzai
So I downloaded DosBox so I could play TFTD on my 2ghz AMD64 machine with XP and it certainly works, and DECENTLY, I suppose, however, I dont like the choppiness I'm dealing with. Any pulsing anims look like crap, and the night/day on the geoscape is terrible. Not smooth at all. I've tried increasing the CPU cycles, it helps to some extent, but still leaves it much less than desired. All I want to know, is... is it possible to have it run in DosBox like it SHOULD be running?Or will I just have to learn to deal with the performance hit if I want to play at all? Any thoughts'd be appreciated. Thanks.

The game is supposed to run as well as it did on a 486 back in those days.I hope you already played with various number of Cycles (Ctrl+F12) and eventually with a bit of frameskip numbers. If it's still too choppy, I would choose the sound setup temporarily to NO SOUND and see if the game performance improves. My version of TFTD works really well on a P4 (3 GHz) with 5500 cycles, no frameskip and soundblaster, no music.I hope it will work for you eventually, TFTD is a really great game
Guest Outklawstar15a2
thats funny I had a 486 and a 586 back in the day and I never had this much trouble like I do in DOSbox the emulator needs to be reworked.
Guest Azrael
There is no comparison, one is the actual system which the game is designed to run in, and the other is an emulator, emulations are not always perfect, DOSBox does it's job quite well, considering the immense differences between the system and the one it's trying to emulate. Serge
Also don't forget to set dynamic core in dosbox config file for better performance:[cpu]...core=dynamic
