rumbit
I was just reading something that mentioned squaddies when it occurred to me that I don't have any! I checked my game and sure enough, rookies straight to sergeants. I can't seem to remember having any at all, either. (I'm returning to Xcom after many years so I'm rusty.) I suppose it's due to the number of soldiers I have. I was using up soldiers like bubblegum for a while in the game. 75% casualties every mission plus constantly dumping the unfit recruits (I made Xcomutil put XXX in the name of anyone who matches a set of undesirable characteristics) really drove up the unit count. I have 6 captains and 3 colonels now, for example. Do you get anything from being a Squaddie anyway? Promotions only affect leadership, right? EtherImp
Squaddies are members on your roster who have at least 1 recorded kill (or perhaps hit?), but who cannot be promoted because there are already Officers in existence ahead of them. Having no squaddies could be a result of having a large roster list where everyone who gets a kill gets a promotion straight to Sergeant or above, OR who gets a kill and then dies in combat (meaning they do not get promoted!). The number of officers you have is dictated by the number of overall marines on your roster. You must have X many rookies to have a Sergeant, and X many sergeants to have a Captain, etc etc. There is only ever 1 commander and I believe you need something like 25 or 30 marines in order to have a commander.
