i wonder why none voted for x-com 1? :)

this is worst, not best x-com game :P

enforcer (x-com 6), obviously :whatwhat:

other doesn't really fit there since all x-coms are there. only unfinished and based-on projects aren't.

Mamutas there was an email version of xcom, though it wasn't much good.

As for the voting, no real surprises there :)

In reverse order going from bad to great for me are:

Worst: X-COM 6: Enforcer (Only xcom in name. I wonder if this is why Atarigramme aren't interested in reviving the xcom games, because this bombed so badly?)

X-COM 5: E-mail X-COM (didn't really bring anything new to the table and the graphics sucked)

X-COM 3: Apocalypse (Great gfx, better optuions but lacking the spark of the first. Just didn't enjoy playing it)

X-COM 4: Interceptor (Now we're talking. Brought xcom back to life and of course flying around just kicked butt)

X-COM 2: TFTD (What can I say that hasn't already been said. Much tougher than the original, well at least on the psx it was. Double length missions rocked. More xcom goodness but with a wet flavour)

X-COM 1: UFO (All hail the king)

All I'm gonna say is its just the worlds biggest shame that Freedom Ridge and the other xcom games didn't make it out. The one I was looking forward to but haven't seen much mentioned was the one (I can't even remember the name) that was supposed to come out just after Apoc. It was going to use the Unreal engine and have cameras for each of your squad's viewponts at the top with your view in the main window. I only ever saw one picture of it.

-------------------------------------

Other games for me would rank as follows.

Worst: UFO AM (Sorry guys but hype doesn't cut the mustard, neither does crappy voice acting.)

There isn't really any middle ground as I think an xcom style game really either sucks or is fantasticm though if there were any it would have to be Last Hope. It looks mediocre. No offense to the people working on it but that genre has been done to death and Enforcer sucked harder than vacuum.

UFO 2000 and UFO AI: (For me these two shape up to be the best fun inspired by xcom.)

I know its not finished and I am biased but Xenocide comes right at the top of the list. :)

IIRC, the Last Hope mod will both have a geoscape and a battlescape, and only the battlescape will be FPS like, which makes me give it much more credit than Enforcer :P

Man i hated interceptor really bad. I actualy had to be good at flying to win the game i mean management and tactical thinking where the keywords voor 1 ...3 but 4. Also when u died u lost if there was only 1 allien out there and 4 of you and u died well u lost come on.

Have never played 5 and 6 though

I have a soft spot for the little e-mail game. It was only supposed to be a fun thing, and it was loads better than the other e-mail games Hasbeen did (battleships and scrabble IIRC). The graphics were very limited because the whole package had to be less than 1.5meg

There are still tourneys running, and Mods (Apocalypse graphics set!! )

The one you couldn't remember the name of was Alliance. A troubled project, partly due to being done while the Unreal engine was still being developed. Get a latest version of unreal and spend a month getting your code to run again.

And then there was Genesis, which was shaping up to be x-com 1 but in 3D and had great concept work being done on it. Great sales figres projected, on time, on budget, so naturally the suits killed it.

:hammer:

I could start a transatlantic flamewar by pointing out that the two games scoring lowest were done in the States :P

Or you could say that the two games scoring the lowest were made by atari/hasborg.

Same thing. ^_^

I use Windows, which was made in the good 'ol US. Right now, the task bar has completely failed, as well as the clipboard. I had to copy the quotes by hand. :cussing:

That's why I was raised to love Hondas, and everything not made in the US. That includes cars.

Although, America is at the cutting edge of the porn industry. No one else can even come close. :)

Same thing? - not so.

Hasbeen took over Microprose UK as well. (end of 1998 beginning 1999).

At that point atari was a brand owned by hasbro , just a label and nothing more, They did a couple of new versions of old arcade games with an atari label, and were planning to do a big relaunch.

Before that could happen Hasbro finally admitted they didn't know what they were doing, having lost $170mill and sold the software business to Infogrammes.

Not long after that infogrammes landed in the sh*t when the french government asked them to pay back outstanding loans (IIRC) and they launches Atari (the company) as a lifeboat.

First off I can just about remember Enforcer, it loaded poorly and the graphics and such wern't really 'worthy' I can't comment on the gaming performance in terms of control as IO haven't played it for a long while.

However I have grown to hate UFO: Terror of the Deep very quickly after getting it at last. Its hard I'll give it that but it dosen't excuse that its just a direct rehash of the orignal, inconsintences are annoying. (ok they can't use the powerful laser rifle in sea but surely on LAND during the terror attacks* It just didn't have the continuity element. The menu screen and geoscape looked fairly ill, your solider's menu options were highlighted in a poor brown and for some reason the contients on the geoscape map look terribly drawn, it far too rough on the edges. There is nothing really that makes me want to play it as its just the same thing but with weaker guns. It just screams of wasted potential.
