Crash Site Missions

Recommended Posts

I've been playing xcom games since the beginning, even the few more recent ones but my favorate of them all is good old TFTD. I must admit I've never actually completed a game, mostly due to reasearch bugs preventing me from getting a required technology, but sometimes I just get fed up and the game is forgotten about for another 6 months or so.

It does seem a bit silly to be using a ?1000+ gaming computer on a game thats over 10 years old but there is definitly something special about the xcom games that keeps so many people coming back.

This is my fist post here so sorry for waffling but I'll get on to my main point.

When playing the game I find myself going to every single crash site and doing the mission to kill or capture all the aliens. Only exceptions is if it is to far away from my base at the start of the game or, later in the game I might have something else more important to send my aquanaughts too. But generally i find that i do over 95% of all crash and terror sites.

Will it make much difference if I skip a few more of them? Doing them all I find even from an early point in the game money never seems to be a problem, i always end up selling heaps of alien weapons. But this means that I end up spending ages playing the game, I usually get fed up before the end.

Do I lose much points for shooting down a ufo and just leaving it on the seabed?

First of all, welcome to the forums! :)

Anyhow, feel free to skip as many of those crash sites as you want. If you don't visit them, there isn't a penalty but I find that visiting more sites can only help as it adds to X-COM's score (assuming you do well of course). True, USO missions can get a bit annoying after a while as they just keep coming no matter what you do. Remember though, that missions are great training for your soldiers as well as yourself. Not to mention that the points gained from a successful mission can help to negate a bad score that month. And like you mention, selling the excess loot helps to fund your effort. I find that USO missions (landing sites, not crash sites) are good for stunning aliens as the craft is cramped and facilitates the use of the tazer.

Hi,

I always liked the crash and landing sites - it is the best opportunity to get resources like Zrbite and Aqua Plastics for producing important stuff. The only thing silly about it is that smallest type of ship and aliens sitting in there, waiting for u to come and shoot u with reaction fire ;) And as already stated, the best opportunity to capture live aliens of needed ranks.
