Upon the detection of three strange anomalies in the airspace of Mega-Primus, the senate feared yet another alien invasion threatening earth. With the elections but a year away they did not want anything to happen that would compromise their power. Thusly, they contacted the Extraterrestrial Combat Unit and contracted them to safeguard the city from any alien threat that might be represented by the strange objects in the sky.

 

 

"Welcome to X-Com recruits! Our sole purpose is to protect this city from alien scum. We have substantial funding from the Government, and no restrictions on how to combat any alien threat we detect...they just ask that we keep the city in one peace in doing so."

As you can see, we got a fairly large base, with a decent layout, plenty of room for advanced labs especially when the vehicle bay is moved to another location (read: we get more money). Only going to go with a small defense perimeter of 1 station on each side of the lift, so I'm moving the training room and bio lab one square out. Sadly we are in a slums building, so let's hope no one decides to just collapse our home on us instead of assaulting it.

 

We've got 3 Hovercars with Turbo engines and dual lasers and 9 hoverbikes, 6 with the best engines they can use...3 Rendors and 6 Janitors. This is more of an airforce than I usually field (we did get lucky with 9 hoverbikes off the bat). Should be enough until fast attack ships start popping in. Gunna go in and play the first day or so, should be at least the one alert mission.

 

Remember, anyone who wants to join the fight sign up in the Application thread...we need more troops for the cause!

 

EDIT - Also, let me know how the pictures fair for everyone. I got broadband but the uploading seemed extremely quick to me. So shouldn't be a biggy.

*Sirens Blaring*

 

"Alright troops, get to the ship. We have a confirmed sighting of an extraterrestrial in one of Megapols police stations. NKF, j'ordos, Azrael, RustedSoul, and Kell Tainer, load up!

In short order, X-Com's interceptor transport arrives at the nearby police station.

"Ok troops, NKF and RustedSoul you two are squad 1. Azrael, Kell and j'ordos are squad 2. The use of incendiary and explosive ordinance is NOT autherized!"

 

j'ordos - "Crackerjacks...this is going to be one boring mission. I told them not to send me out unless I got to burn stuff!"

Azrael - "We should be required to use fire here, these buildings are so poorly designed, it's a wonder I even don armor made by these clowns."

Kell - "Cut the chatter, let's find the bugs and introduce some lead to their diet."

 

NFK - Combat mode engaged, try to keep up trooper: RustedSoul.

RustedSoul- "Why am I stuck with this suicidal robot? He doesn't even take real weapons into combat!"

 

Both squads proceed to wander the nonsensical halls of the police station for a few minutes...

 

Kell - "Anything in here?"

Azrael - "Hostile spotted! At least, a big blue teddy bear with glowing red eyes and teeth like that better be hostile..."

Azrael opens fire with his laser rifle while Kell attempts to bring his weapon to bear.

 

j'ordos - "I'll help guys! Don't get dead on me."

Azrael, Kell, and j'ordos take up positions facing down a short hallway as they fight off a second "blue teddy bear" that proceeds to lob orange blobs at them. j'ordos curiously picks up one that lands near his feet, as another sprouts legs and leaps atop Azrael's head.

Azrael - "AHH! Help me! It's on my face!"

j'ordos - "Huh?"

Kell - "I gotcha Azrael."

 

A few well aimed shots punctured the little orange tick, and sent it to the floor like a deflated balloon. Once the area was cleared, Kell and j'ordos charged down the hall to the door the last blue alien had ducked through.

Kell - "Ha, he's cowering in the corner...let's blast him j'ordos!"

j'ordos - "Oh ya!"

 

The two soldiers open fire at close range and riddle the alien with bullets until it no longer moves.

 

"Mission Accomplished soldiers. For your bravery and quick thinking Azrael, you are granted a promotion. j'ordos, for not burning down the building against orders you too are promoted to squaddie.

Lucky us to get one of the lamest apoc maps for our first mission, at least there were no worms around. NKF and RustedSoul didn't get to see any action, but they will see plenty in the next mission.

"Alright troops, looks like the aliens have decided to show themselves in the air. Get ready for tactical deployment, air units are being scrambled. We have no idea what these things are capable of, let's just pray missiles and plasma will be as effective as it was in other wars."

 

X-Com craft are scrambled and split evenly among the invading UFOs.

 

Hoverbike Pilot - "What the heck is that thing doing to the gravball dome?"

Alien craft has suffered severe damage, altering attack orders. Engage enemy escorts.

All alien craft have been neutralized or have retreated, commence recovery and cleansing operations.

 

 

 

"Alright troops, load up and get to those crashed UFOs. If there is any resistance, stomp it down and recover the ships for our eggheads to look at. Once they are secure we are to cleanse two locations reported to be invaded: A government owned apartment complex, and one of the gravball domes. Let's show these suckers we don't lie down and take it!"

Quick and simple air fight at the end of the day...5 minutes or so to be exact :D

 

Looks like some fun in gov't appts. (They prob wont mind so much if we light a few fires ;) )

Followed by a gravball dome clean up. There might have been a 3rd drop, not 100% sure as i saw a UFO run out to drop, but went back to gate without me seeing anything. (I usually cycle the dropships repeatedly till i see a tube and note the building)

Cleansing team has arrived at Government owned apartments, initiating standard deployment orders.

"Alright team, same squads as last time, let's see how much damage these bugs have done to the area. As this is a government owned structure, all munitions are authorized for this engagement."

 

j'ordos - "About frackin' time!"

Kell - "Hold off on the barbeque till we see how bad it is in here j'ordos."

j'ordos - "Hey, I outrank you! You can't tell me what to do."

Azrael - "I agree with Kell, j'ordos."

j'ordos - "Fudge nutters. Alright, but if theres more than the last mission i'm so burning them alive!"

Kell - "Roger that."

 

RustedSoul - "Again with the soulless android...Pick up a gun you freak!"

NKF - Negative.

RustedSoul - *sighs*

RustedSoul - "I thought we agreed on HeadHOPPERS!?"

j'ordos - "Hey, you weren't there, I saw it getting busy with Azrael's head...after it hopped on."

Azrael - "It's not funny guys! I swear it wanted at my brain!"

j'ordos - "Ya, ya...like those little orange balls could be any danger to us."

 

Kell - "Whoa! What are those? New enemy sighted, they are purple with tube-like heads. There's at least four! j'ordos, I think it's time to light it up..."

j'ordos - "You got that right! Lock and load alien scum!"

 

j'ordos unloads a healthy amount of incendiary rounds while Kell and Azrael cover him.

RustedSoul - "There's some more new aliens here! They look like giant green worms."

NKF - Moving to engage.

RustedSoul - "Grenade!"

 

RustedSoul lobs a grenade towards the worms, but his throwing arm was wrenched playing gravball last night, so it happens to fly right at NKF instead of the aliens.

 

RustedSoul - "Woopsy..."

NKF - Proximity alert, retreating.

j'ordos - "Need some help here guys?"

 

j'ordos proceeds to unload with more firey wrath at the new alien threat.

Kell - "The worms are getting away, doesn't look like fire is having much of an effect on them."

j'ordos - "I just haven't used enough of it! This should cook em."

Kell - "Good god j'ordos, now we can't even get to the worms to see if they're dead!"

NKF - Entering engagement zone. Scanning for alien life.

RustedSoul - "I told you he's crazy, just walking to fire like that."

Azreal - "He's a robot, doesn't bother him much...but he is gunna melt that armor if he's not careful."

Azrael - "Whoa! That one just died and like four more little worms just popped out...holy crap. Grenade!"

 

Azrael lobs a grenade at the incoming hyperworms.

NKF - Sensors indicate no alien lifesigns.

"Good work troops. j'ordos and Azrael, you are now promoted to squad leaders. Kell and RustedSoul are now the rank of squaddie. NKF we have yet to see our money's worth out of you're berzerking antics. You are now required to carry a sidearm for all missions. Dismissed.

Got to say, I'm not personally a huge user of Inc ammo, but it sure is fun to use. Just doesn't seem to do a great job at killing anything IMO.

I also suck at using CC stuff (grapples for now). We'll see how powerswords fair next week, until then i'm gunna run NKF with a lawpistol till i can get him into melee.

 

Also, i didn't get a pick of it, but NKF's first attacks actually stunned Azrael and not the aliens, though it did make the brainsucker lunging for his head miss :D and he got up mere moments later to continue the assault.

 

Gunna go run the gravball mission now and post it. Not getting much activity here, a little discouraging, but i guess i'll just play and post even if no one is watching intently.

That's the problem with grapples. They're up-close weapons, and require lots of dashes between cover, short range corner ambushes and lots of running in general. Swords will be much worse, but the results are worth it when pulled off well.

 

Perhaps for now a selection of AP grenades might do the trick. The android's a rusted bucket of bolts, so something gets knocked loose in the noggin every so often that results in a "enough explosives can solve anything" logic to solving problems. ;)

I just recruited a new android (the only new soldier) on day two. Was thinking about putting it in as you NRN, but you really want no armor? I've never fielded an agent naked before heh.

 

That was the first day, so I wanted it to be fairly detailed. I still gota post the gravball fight (it'll be rather short as i took like 2 pics and it was uneventfull). I'll be doing quite a few less detailed battles for the most part. Mabie one in depth mission every few days with an overview between of our progress. I'm quite enjoying this so far. I like writing the little story, would help if I had more people, but oh well...I'll make do

Dispatching team to Gravball dome for alien investigation.

"Same drill, different tune troops. Clear the local gravball complex of all aliens. Incendiary munitions restricted. Good luck."

 

j'ordos - "Not again, why can't these buggers tube the cult buildings so I can burn them to the ground?"

Kell - "If we clean up fast, maybe command will send us on a smash'n'grab to a cult building...so let's rock this joint."

Azrael - "heck's ya. Lock and load!"

 

Quick fight with an anthropod, a multiworm, and a spitter or two later and the dome is clear. Not much happened honestly. Excepting that j'ordos went against direct orders and set the walkways ablaze...

Kell - "Didn't command just tell you NOT to burn the place down?"

j'ordos - "Ah, it's fine...no one likes the top row anyway...."

Azrael - "Um, that's the ONLY place to sit if you didn't notice."

j'ordos - "Oh, guess I didn't. Woopsy."

NKF - Permission to neutralize j'ordos, command.

 

"Denied NKF. The Gravball League was impressed with our job, even with the moderate structural damage j'ordos caused. Get some R&R for the rest of the day."

 

The rest of the day (all 2 minutes of it) went by without a hitch.

On to day 2. A few hours in show's that Psyke has some infiltration so a quick mission there will probably take place in the first few hours of day 2. I'll probably bring in NRN early since I got an extra android today. Probably do a cult raid on day 3 or 4 if the aliens don't keep us too busy.

Alien incursion in progress.

 

"Tell all X-Com craft to hold position. We already have a sample of these ships, they seem to be drone craft with no crew on board aside from the invasion teams they drop. Command agrees that we do not want to risk needless damage to the city over such a minimal threat. We'll mop up on the ground, all troops get ready for cleansing operations."

 

Order relayed. All X-Com craft are standing down to yellow status.

 

The standard force of 3 scouts and 2 probes fly about and again only 2 or the 3 scouts drop their payload...one in a school (yay) and the other in a marsec flyer factory.

 

Alien craft have withdrawn from Mega Primus airspace.

 

"Alright troops, let's get the school first. Standard teams."

 

I totally forgot to get any screenys of this fight, not even the score...it didn't go great either. NKF, RustedSoul, and Kell suffered quite a bit of damage from those cursed Multiworms' acid. No one died though :D Here is the health status of our troops after the school mission:

Azrael - "Not without armor you bucket of bolts!"

j'ordos - "Don't complain Azrael, he'll draw fire away form us after all, if less than NFK would...Besides, he prob won't mind much if I light him on fire." ;)

 

Team arrived at flyer factory, commencing sweep...alien life forms detected. Deploying troops.

In the ensuing firefight that took quite a while, NRN was severly wounded by a spitter(!!) and was forced to retreat without doing anything meaningful o_O

j'ordos actually got gnawed on a bit by a hyperworm and lost almost half his health, so we might not see any flaming combat for a day. :(

Heh...I thought it was hilarious at the time. I heard the Inc round go off but it didn't travel to the target. So I looked at you and since fire doesn't render on slopes, you were sitting there alone on fire. I don't know if running around helps, I think so personally...either way I had you run around for my own amusement if nothing else :D

 

Either way, I can't do much with so few soldiers. Since you're all hurt, any suggestions you guys would like me to try?

 

You're in the shop NRN, so is NKF still as one day was enough to fix him. I bought a new droid today too. Getting quite a few this time around.

X-Com spy network reports possible alien activity in the vicinity of Psyke owned structures. Recommend immediate investigation.

"Alright troops you've had some rest, now it's back to work. We have reported alien activity in Psyke's turf. We are sending you to investigate and neutralize any aliens in the area. Standard teams."

 

Kell - "Watch the fire here j'ordos, we don't want the whole building falling on our heads..."

j'ordos - "Hey! I'm the sergeant here. I decide what building falls on who's head."

Dual stun grapples unload into the blue bastards. Downing one, and shortly a second.

NKF - Removing threat: Brainsucker Pod.

The android swipes up the unhatched pods and places them safely in his backpack.

RustedSoul - "Wow, the rust'o'matic has done something useful for once. We should give him a met...aw nevermind he's got enough."

NKF - Area secure. Proceeding to floor: three.

Riding the lift to the third floor, NKF finds another pair of anthropods waiting to be stunned by a flurry of stun bullets!

RustedSoul - "Hey! One of the stunned barnies is making a break for it!"

RustedSoul is forced to chase an anthropod down the lift and into the courtyard, putting enough bullets into it to re-stun the fleeing alien. (All 4 anthropods were captured alive thanks to NKF...like it matters at all.)

A hoverbike and hovercar launch, owned by Diablo, and proceed to the slums I had just cleared. They proceeded to wage a small war with Psyke that lasted quite a while. Here's some screenys of the carnage!

Sped through two days rather quickly with a mission i really didn't have to even do (the infiltration levels were up and down each day since like day 3 in psyke so they woulda died down on their own).

 

I'm really just trying to get through to week's end, one more day to go. It's almost certain the aliens will attack tomorrow before week out. I'll probably station my ships near the gates and try to keep them from dropping anything. I want some more money/gear to deal with them on the ground...and I don't like to raid/sell during week one since it'll drop prices sooner than I like ;)

 

I might not be able to do day 7 till saturday or sunday if all goes according to plan...hope to get more interest by then so we can have some larger teams go out and really cause some carnage!

First week done. Sadly though, our second week is rather lackluster in new equipment. Not a single powersword for our resident psychotic robot. Only 2 Marsec Body armors. 2 Plasma guns...nothing really to get excited about. Guess some cult raids might be in order in the next day or so if no aliens come a knocken.

Ya NRN, you got dibs of course. And yes we do have 16 agents, 13 in the health screenshot up above. Since then i've hired 2 droids and a hybrid I believe (training as early as you can).

 

No one has died as of yet, just got really hurt heh. Happy new years to all.

 

PS - A few days ago my computer just stopped working. It turns on and everything get's power, but no beep or anything like that. After some troubleshooting I'm relatively certain my motherboard died on me. I'm in the process of checking with newegg about the warranty and whatnot, so as soon as i can get my computer running again (or find another computer with SATA that i can borrow) i'll continue the game. At least I can play EU on my laptop (Apoc won't run on it for some stupid reason...as in the messed up and wierded out colors)

 

PSS - Makes me thing that FMIX are cursed, and my mobo fried because I started one up heh. I just hope the HD is fine...and that I don't have to drop another 200 bucks for a new mobo >_<

Geez, same thing happened to my PC. The motherboard's badly designed though, and there's a possibility that there's a hairline crack on the board itself. It's back now, and should run. However I haven't had the courage to plug my HD back in and boot everything up. Will have to sometime, but...

 

Have you considered hiring apprentices for the time being? Well, subordinates or followers for the higher ranked units. Basically our characters can operate in a mini-squad of their own (say up to 2 extras). That would be a good way to temporarily beef up the numbers until more characters sign up.
