boggy84
I've been playing with UFO Extender and it's really nice, so nice that I don't want to go back to playing it in DOSbox. However X-Com is one of those Win95 DOS ports that acts like a DOS game and eats as many CPU cycles as you can give it, which makes playing it on my laptop at the bus stop or what have you impractical as it devours the already mediocre battery life of my laptop. I can shunt it to one core, but then it's still eating 100% of the cycles of that core. I've tried to manage it by forcing vsync and limiting the FPS in the UFO Extender ini, but that doesn't seem to help at all. The only way I've been able to reduce the amount of CPU time it gobbles up for itself is by throttling the processor in power management down to 25%, but then tasking out and doing anything else on the laptop is gruelingly slow. Any suggestions of other ways to deal with this?
