Direct2Drive X-Com 1 DOS Version 1.4 Bug Problems - Help!

I would like to say thanks first of all.

Okay I just got X-Com 1 DOS Version 1.4 from Direct2Drive. I been playing it for a few days now when I started to notice some bugs.

The first bug I noticed is when I tried to delete my saved game files. I went into the directory to delete the saved game files thinking that would clear out the saved game files from the game, but it didn't do anything. It just got me more angry and upset. I tried everything I could think of to clear the saved game files. I even uninstalled the game , but when I reinstalled the game the saved game files were still there. I know I can just save over the previous saved games files, but I really rather have the power to clear out the saved game files to avoid getting any corrupt files. I don't understand why this game doesn't let you delete your saved game files. Even back when this game came out it was standard in many games to give the player the option to delete the saved game files. I have read online that in the original Windows version of the game it is possible to delete the saved game files. What is wrong with this version?

The second bug I noticed was inside a small UFO. I was fighting several Floaters. Everything seemed fine until one of the Floaters magically appeared right next to my team. The Floater didn't attack my team, nor even seem to notice my team. I don't know what the heck this was about.

The third bug I noticed is that all the difficulty modes seem to be the same. In all of them you fight small UFOs landing in the wild first only at the end of the month to get a large UFO attacking a city. Besides this there is no way for me to tell which difficulty mode I am playing. You would think the makers of this game would put in the saved game files the name of the difficulty so the user can know which difficulty mode they are playing in, but for some insane reason they didn't. What the heck is even the point of playing in a higher difficulty mode if you can't even tell what difficulty mode you are playing in? I went online to try to find some help on this bug. What I found is that no one could tell me whether the option for different difficulty modes was even working. I came upon several sites that said the DOS versions of the game have a bug that resets the game after saving back to the beginning difficulty mode. However how do you really know? One site said downloading and installing X-ComUtil fixes this bug. I actually did this but found that I still couldn't tell if the bug had been fixed and at the same time X-ComUtil makes some other changes I am not sure about. Going online once more I came upon a website that said you can fix the bug problem without installing X-ComUtil by changing the value of a byte in the Geoscape.exe file. I tried to do this, but I have no idea how to do it. Here is the link that talks about it.

XcomUtil does indeed fix the difficulty bug, It does not however fix the saved games automatically. Download the 9.7 beta It does not make a bunch of unwanted changes. Using "XcuSetup default skip" in a command prompt would ONLY fix the difficulty bug on 1.4.

Once it's installed from the command prompt you can change the difficulty level of your saved game with command "XcomUtil game_1 LVL:5 WRT" This would set the difficulty to Superhuman Don't forget the "WRT" or no changes are made.

to view the current difficulty use "XcomUtil Game_1"
