Yoni
This is not really a tactic as it wont help a lot of people. It's a very case specific thingie, but it was funny so I wanted to post it. I really hate alien reaction fire. When I'm in a terror mission and I climb up one of the towers (the ones were usually an alien is hiding inside) when I open the door and spot the alien I always instinctively run behind the corner again. If I were to shoot it and miss it would reaction fire and kill my soldier. Before I used to throw grenades in front of the door or blow the whole thing away with gass cannons from far away (from were the aliens couldn't see my men anymore) But now I already had sonic cannons and no more gascannons. So the next turn I stood on the ground below the tower and shot the floor in the place I knew the alien was standing. Nothing appeared to have happened at first. (nothing fell) But the alien had appeared on the floor level now. A soldier was waiting on the square next to him and shot him from point blank. I used that on all towers with aliens in them from then on. I'm not sure if there's other places where the floors can be shot from underneath them. Jonaleth Irenicus
Try standing one level above the alien, they sometimes end up shooting themselves in the head (they turn their back to the screen to shoot you and then they somehow blow their heads). Yoni
, that seems worthwile to try. Does the soldier need a flying suit to be right above the alien then?
Robo Dojo 58
You don't need one. You can use an elevator inside a UFO, or the elevators in an alien base attack. If you can't get an alien under an elevator, then try a flying suit.
Harpoon
Flying above technicians can be good fun, if you have Mag. Ion Armour. The technician will usually attempt to throw a grenade straight up at you I guess this would work on other aliens once you panic them with MC control. Puasonen
What happens if you shoot the roof above you and there's an alien? It drops in you or levitates in the air above you?
SupSuper
What happens if you shoot the roof above you and there's an alien? It drops in you or levitates in the air above you? i think he'll levitate until you get out from under him, and he can still reaction fire on you. since you're the one on the bottom, you're on disadvantage (grenades, etc.) Edited May 4, 2004 by SupSuper
[Blehm 98]
ACtually, if you kill them then blow the floor, the corpses float! But what if you reaction fire at them while they are falling?
[NKF]
From what I've seen, destroying the floor when a unit is on it will cause it to drop down to the next level immediately. Happened recently when two of my soldiers were on the second level. One soldier misifred and almost hit the other soldier, though the bullet missed and struck the floor. It was a heavy plasma, and the floor wood - I'll let you draw up the natural conclusion yourself. The soldier dropped down to the next floor immediately. If the unit has a flying suit, it'll stand on thin air instead of dropping. If you carry an unconscious unit in your inventory and then it wakes up while you are in mid air, it'll 'stand' in the air right next to you. If it's an alien with a hand-to-hand attack, it will attack. Since you cannot arm a soldier in mid-air, all hopes of making a fixed turret out of a flight-less soldier can be forgotten. Equipment on the other hand can be a bit odd. Sometimes it'll drop, sometimes it will float in the air. Most of the time the equipment should drop through a destroyed floor. If you're in the air and then get panicked, any items you drop will be left in the air. - NKF

[NKF]
Sounds like what happened to me when I was doing the Grenade Relay in the Skyranger to get a -- I think it was a smoke bomb, or probably a high explosive -- to the front, when it suddenly dissapears. You can imagine the terror I felt when I searched for it and could not find it. Then I saw it had fallen right through the floor. Boggled the mind that. - NKF
[Blehm 98]
Cool, think i will see if i can make my stuff fall through the floor. All that happens to me is the stuff will all pile up. How do you do that?
