CTD - GAIA Missile

even though the final name is not decided, I think I can post my idea of what this weapon system is. so here goes:

 

[Fusion Missile Launcher]

Using insights gained from analyzing the alien Gravity Distortion Missile weapon system, we have been able to create a similar, yet more powerful weapon system for use in our craft. The system uses the same inverted-gravity field technology as the GDM, but the gravity distortion system has been integrated into the projectile itself, allowing in-flight course correction. In effect, the [Fusion Missiles] are autonomous self-propelled fire-and-forget missiles, not unlike cruise missiles, but with the speed and maneuverability of a UFO.

The [Fusion Missile Launcher] features a sensor array especially designed to extrapolate the direction and speed changes of a moving UFO by monitoring its engine output. The information about target heading and projected position is relayed to the [Fusion Missile], which then changes its own trajectory accordingly, increasing the chances of hitting a UFO executing evasive maneuvers.

The "warhead" of a [Fusion Missile Launcher] is, just like in a GDM, the engine itself. By de-stabilizing the Gravity-Distortion systems, a large part of the contained energies is converted into devastating gravitational shear stress, while the rest dissipates in a plasma explosion.

The destructive force unleashed by a single [Fusion Missile] is enough to seriously damage medium-to-large UFOs, and can probably destroy small ones entirely.

 

With this weapon we have a destructive tool at hand that is very close to 100% accurate, and delivers enough punch to down or destroy most UFOs. The range of this weapon system is also amazing, and outclasses every other craft weapon system at our disposal.

There are drawbacks, however: Because of the intricate technology involved, the [Fusion Missile Launcher] as well as the [Fusion Missiles] are expensive in construction. The [Fusion Missiles] also need Xenium for production, and because of their weight and bulk, the ammunition capacity of the [Fusion Missile Launcher] is very limited.

no. can't be, unless you had an edited version. the standard ammunition capacity for the Fusion Ball Launcher is TWO.

I remember trying to down a battleship by repeatedly flying at it with several interceptors (yes, interceptors) armed with fusion balls.

1st: "of course..." I don't like that "of course" don't know why, but maybe you could write sth. like "Regarding the higher weight and longer travel distance of the [Fusion Drone] compared to the [GDD] it is obvious that we were forced to use a more powerful design of the xenium engine thus resulting in a massively increased energy output when melting down the reactor core. As a result of this the damage inflicted to the target is much bigger."

 

2nd: Maybe just remove the "also"? Like: "The amazing range of this weapon outclasses that of every other craft mounted weapon system at our disposal making it the number one choice in force, speed, range and maneuverability."

 

The question remains:

I agree with Az. But if you can come up with enough text it might increase readability. On the other hand neither drone nor launcher are used for another weapon system, so where is the benefit in splitting the text? The problem I see, is that the player gets two entrys for one research. Maybe some people might miss the second and think they don't need amunition for the launcher (although I admit this might be a little far fetched... :P ).

I thought, what the heck, as long as they keep producing neat stuff like this, they can have their way with the names..."

I agree that Bolter Cannon sounds kinda cool, but it gives a totally wrong first impression about the weapon's principle of function. this weapon does NOT fire bolts of any kind. (I always wondered why the Fusion Balls were more accurate than the starting missiles, although the latter surely have some kind of guidance system, which Fusion Balls just cannot have, due to them being balls of plasma)
