nachtwolf Posted January 27, 2006 Report Share Posted January 27, 2006 (edited) Hello all, Im giving a preview of what could be the next generation ufo2000 chat window... Some features and tweakings are still not there but it gives a first impression. (The chat conversation is fictive) Edited January 27, 2006 by nachtwolf Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Kratos Posted January 31, 2006 Report Share Posted January 31, 2006 The only question I have here is the font. What font are you using and is it free? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have no idea if we can use arial... but anyway it looks similar to ufo2000 's. But, browsing font sites we can get free fonts that grant a full (or not very limited) liscence. Examples : http://www.1001fonts.com/font_details.html?font_id=750 http://www.1001fonts.com/font_details.html?font_id=257 See Readme.txt in the files. Both would be free and grants a licence. We can also contact the user to make sure. Edited January 31, 2006 by nachtwolf Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

[post="145512"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
The font we are currently using is http://dejavu.sourceforge.net This is the only really free unicode font that I could find. We need unicode font for use by default because the game supports different languages. I'm myself interested in cyrillic glyphs for example, some people might also want greek or hebrew (dejavu developers even have some plans to support asian languages). The other free fonts similar to those you have found are usually not quite free (they are usually free for personal use only and not for redistribution). Also most of them support only west european languages. The game allows the user to use any ttf fonts by configuring them in ufo2000.ini, but changing the default font in the ufo2000 distribution has these issues. nachtwolf Posted February 2, 2006 Author Report Share Posted February 2, 2006 (edited) It's not the font which is really a problem it's more the unicode part . We could make our own font for let's say unicode western + cyrillic but there's no way we could conform to the whole unicode... [post="145664"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
One of the options is to have several fonts coming with the game and switch them depending on the language used (falling back to dejavu for some of the languages). But that will add a bit extra complexity to the sources and also we will have to ensure that all gui elements look well (or at least acceptable) using any font.
