Serge
lxnt.info will be down for some time, we're upgrading the server. Expecting to finish the work today.Hi, I'm sorry, any new ETA? The last downtime lasted for about 2 weeks (though hardware fault was involved, not a planned upgrade). You can call me a pessimist, but now I'm prepared for the worst. BTW, would anybody be so kind to provide me with a gmail invitation? Seems like a good time to try it

Kratos
I am uncertain when it will be back online. However, having said that, next time when this happens I may attempt to 'host' ufo2k as a backup server with my Linux Box. However, the idea of doing this still acquires me to acquire logs for any errors that happened within games so that we can keep those 'errors' in mind to possibly fix if they are constantly occurring. I am not certain if the lxnt server contained special log files, or ufo2k contained it itself, but I would assume ufo2k had this feature due to that it logs information such as battles. Everything required to run the server is contained in ufo2000 sources distribution. The server automatically manages users database, stores battle results and error reports. There are a few scripts which can access the database to provide reports in user friendly html format (which you used to see at http://ufo2000.lxnt.info/results-beta.php). See db2htmlreport.lua script in the source distributive, in order to build lua interpreter which can execute this script, run 'make tools'. Smokey McDope
Hello. I have downloaded and am trying to play this game.. but whenever I type stuff in the username or password box, the text appears all in russian and I dont know what the heck is going on. Everything I try results in "failed connect" and everything I type appears in russian .
Kratos
Welcome. First of all, the main server is down (lxnt.info) so that is why you are getting "failed to connect". You can use grimshat's alternative server for the meantime by typing in the address name, 'ufo2000.exodus.ro' replacing 'lxnt.info'. Second, russian letters can be fixed by going into the mission planner and hitting 'F9' if it is stable 0.6.627. Alternatively you can go into the 'ufo2000.ini' file and replace the code 'language = ru' with 'language = en'. Hope that helps.
Sporb
this is starting to become irritating. UFO2000 is all about online play ... except we dont have any online server. Develoment has become risky since no one knows whats happening. Perhaps its time to think about getting some sort of donations thing going so a commercial server can be added for ufo2k? if it means the server will be up almost all the time i'd be willing to donate some monies
Serge
this is starting to become irritating. UFO2000 is all about online play ... except we dont have any online server.I agree, times when the server is not working are really irritating Develoment has become risky since no one knows whats happening. It is not that risky. The latest sources are uploaded to sourceforge, I have SVN repository backup up to revision 1003 (though the latest revision is 1007). Worse is with mysql database backup (mantis), it is about a month old, about the same age has ufo2000 server database backup. I did not pay much attention to backups recently because I did not have enough free time, usually backups were not older than a week In any case, we did not lose anything yet, lxnt.info can get back into action soon In the worst case we can use sourceforge SVN repository (they started to provide such service recently). Perhaps its time to think about getting some sort of donations thing going so a commercial server can be added for ufo2k? if it means the server will be up almost all the time i'd be willing to donate some moniesCollecting some donations might be a good idea. Sourceforge has paypal donations system. We just need to assign a person responsible for getting these donations and paying the services we might need for the project. I've also found update_db.sql which I can probably use to create the database. But which should be the database name and user/password? I didn't find anything about this in ufo2000-srv.conf.Game server uses sqlite3 database. It is stored in a ordinary file 'ufo2000.db' and does not require any passwords or anything else to access. Access to this file is only managed by file owner permissions (for security reasons it is better to enable access to it only for ufo2000 server user account). If you have compiled the server, it should be already ready to run. Unfortunately 'daemonize' mode is broken, so don't try to use it in configuration file. We used the server in the following way: there was a user registered in the system just for ufo2000 server. I logged in using SSH and this username and started the server with 'ufo2000-srv &'. After that I just logged off and the server kept running.
