Robotrek
While playing around in UFO 2000, I decided that it was kind of silly that there are these aliens terrorizing major cities and the law enforcement agents never got involved. After all, what kind of police officer is going to stand by while aliens kill citizens in his city AND double park? They seem particularly well fit to using conventional weapons and fighting in the city. Basically its a slightly modified recoloring of the current soldiers, but I decided that it was good enough to post. Just unzip it into your extensions folder and look at the chameleon appearances. Please post any comments or suggestions. unit_police.zip Edited June 18, 2006 by Robotrek
Jezulkim
Nice idea this police. I think the badge could be darker, otherwise nice recolor!Downloaded.
Serge
Should we add it to the next beta?
nappes
I'm not sure if it's different enough from the soldier to be added. If we want to let players use different coloured variations of existing units, much better way would be to code some kind of recolouring system to the game where players could use sliders to choose whatever colours they want. A policeman as a unit is an interesting and worthy idea though, but it would call for a more distinct uniform design than just a recoloured soldier + badges methinks. Sporb
I agree with nappes. A recolour does not, in my opinion, constitute a new unit. A recolouring thing WOULD be nice though - i think i started a report about a similar thing with armour colours. More armour colours == more customisability == more fun for everyone involved (make your team even more unique) Again, this all comes down to the amount of programming and the weight being tossed on top of the programmers. Voller
I quite like the idea of having police forces, although I'm not sure how exactly they could come into play. But, yeah, there needs to be more than just the different skin to make it a new unit.Custom colours could be quite neat
Sporb
what could be done is making a uniform for an Xcom unit that is overlayed on top of an xcom unit in the inventory screen (this means were not modifying and re distributing copyright material). this would wrk for many different uniforms and stuff but would require new sprites since it'l be much harder to do the same thing on actual sprites

John Faust
Hey, the mafi was left out, They would have had to decide who to support, X-Com, which would leave them with thier old turf, or the aliens, which they would think whould have an position of collaberators. Besides, notice how much the auto shotgun looks like a tommy gun + the police man skin

Jamaru
To Robotrek: Nice skin but the helm should be adjusted just a little bit IMO. Other than the helm part the rest of it looks good. To John Faust: A mafia skin sounds cool. Edited October 7, 2006 by Plasma
Robotrek
I have a plan for another shameless recolor. It seems that by recoloring the standard human outfit orange he would appear to be an escaped convict. Or with more time black and white stripes are an option. Thoughts? Sporb
Thatd be ok as a mod but it would not be possible to distribute it as it would be subject to copyright. Sounds funny tho Edited March 9, 2007 by Sporb
