lebasilik
hello guys!you cant imagine how happy i was when i heard about UFO2000... really!but i was very disappointed when i installed it to find that it's only a tool to play online! my good old X-com TFTD was still not working on my modern computer so once again, is there a solution? i tried the patch XP or whatever how you call it, but it's awful, the mouse scrolls way too fast, and it bugs sometimes is there an UFO2000 to play the game with UFO2000 interface or such? is there something more efficient than this patch i use? it's really depressing, nostalgy is killing me! i really want to enjoy X-com again can someone help? Jezulkim
There's a very good FAQ that tells you how to run Xcom on winxp.I even got the link: http://www.xcomufo.com/x1faq.htmlIn my opinion the dosbox is the best choise, it gives you a much better atmosphere (just my opinion), but it's a bit harder to set up. So start with the other methods first and see if you like them.
Kratos
Ya, dosbox is the best way to go (that I know of). Ufo2000 isn't at any true level of a game as Ufo EU or Tftd, no geoscape, just battlescape. If someday we have all such nice features, it could just boom people to play EU or Tftd on ufo2k...wow..never really thought of it that way before.. *Note@GBM: Leave this thread here, it's an interesting thought to ufo2k. lebasilik
thanks guys!but i tried the FAQ. i have no problems making it work. the real problem is that it's not working how it should. sometimes it bugs, the sound freezes (weird) and there is this scrolling problem. making me sick. the dosbox is a nice tool, i use it to play Raptor... but on X-Com it's too slow. weird again... i was hopping to see someone pop and say "eh, i adapted UFO 2000 for TFTD, here you go buddy..." but Santa doesnt exist following what i was told recently
Jezulkim
the dosbox is a nice tool, i use it to play Raptor... but on X-Com it's too slow. weird again...Maybe you don't have enough cycles? I use 100,000 cycles and dynamic cpu. Working nice and smooth. I have attached my xcom config in case you want to try if it's any better. It's a D-fend created config, so don't blame me if vanilla dosbox rejects it! EDIT: I noticed that dosbox runs a lot faster when you use General Midi emulation. To do this, use xcom setup to change your music driver to General Midi. The game runs really fast after this! I dropped my cycles from 100,000 to 35,000 or 45,000.
