stjones
I started playing World of Warcraft in February 2005 and still play it every chance I get, often with my two sons. At work, I have been busier than I have been in many years and recently achieved the title of Master Inventor at IBM because of my many patent filings. Every new version of XcomUtil has been the result of two simultaneous factors: I get ideas by playing Xcom AND I need a creative outlet that work does not provide. Neither of these things have occurred in almost two years. The last version of XcomUtil was released 30 March 2005. I have not played Xcom since I tested that version because I have been playing WoW. I have not needed a creative outlet at home since I became a member of IBM's Invention Evaluation Board in June 2004. At this point, it is fair to say that it is unlikely that there will be any new versions of XcomUtil, except to fix bugs such as the one I just saw reported here about problems using XCOPY in my .BAT files. Working on XcomUtil since its first version in March 1995 has been one of the greatest joys of my life. Through it I have met a lot of great people and I hope I have made a lot of people happy. However, all things have an end and I think it is very near the end of XcomUtil. Thank you all. Scott
Tsereve
Regardless of whether or not you continue XcomUtil, the work you have already done has become legendary. Good luck with your current occupations!
[NKF]
Scott, though I've only used it for some rather oddball reasons (well, not really oddball per-se, but rather for understanding the game better) these past few years, XComutil has certainly been an experience. This fan thanks you. - NKF

gufu
I never used the thing -because it was DOS-based
[NKF]
You'd be surprised at how useful some dos-based programs can be in general. Even with XP, you've still got a command prompt console that mimics the old Dos interface, but underneath uses the XP Kernel to do all its magic. (start>run>cmd ) In fact, there are also a lot of "console" programs that are really Windows program that need to be run through the console the same way Dos programs were run. The only time XComutil needs to be run through the console is for using its powerful command line functions. Otherwise, it runs in the background and doesn't need too much user intervention. - NKF
Tsereve
Either way, you can just use XCOMSHEL to easily access the most basic or useful Util functions.
Zombie
Thanks for XcomUtil Scott! I think we all can agree it is a editor by which all other editors are judged. This may be a dumb question, but would you consider releasing the source code? I'm sure some budding programmers would be able to fix those bugs or even modify it to be even better. - Zombie
BladeFireLight
Thanks for all the hard work scott. I find my self in the oposite position. My creative outlet at work has just winded down and games I got for christmass have already been beaten and are not replayable (and I refused to play any MMORPG) so I'm starting to play x-com once again. and the first thing that comes to mind is what utilities I want to make. Perhaps I can submit some fixes for xcomutil and some suplemental utils that use your hook's. -Blade FireLight

[Blehm 98]
Alas, the Plague has claimed yet another victim. I never believed it would spread very much beyond the FPS world however. apparantly Xcom has been afflicted with it as well much too bad, but thanks for what already exists anyway... xcomutil is teh rocks
