I've played the game for over a month and tonight I've been getting the Failed to connect message. Could it be that the server is down or is it something with my computer. Also I have a friend who was never able to connect to the server at all. Any ideas how to fix this? Help would be muchly appreciated!

disable any firewalls and try it. if it still dont go, server might be down or the adress is wrong (unlikely unless the version is really old or youve changed it)

Still not working. It started last night when I tried to play with my brother. We have a home network and created an account on his computer. The server connected us both but then soon enough it stopped working and neither of us could connect back.

I've checked my firewall settings, Ufo is listed as an allowed exception so I don't think the problem lies there. It's happened to me once or twice before that I could not connect but that was just real short. Now it's not been working for the past 12 hours and I tried plenty times. :(

This can't be helped unfortunately. The hosting for ufo2000 server was provided for free and we can't demand anything. The source of the problem is being investigated now, I don't know any details but the current downtime was not planned. Maybe someone can start a backup server for the time being.

I have started again a server on 82.211.39.133:2000
Maybe someone could point ufo2000.xcomufo.com to 82.211.39.133 so people can connect to default server
Or if any developper wants to setup the server himself, I can give access.

Just do a make server in the sources and run ufo2000-srv. You need sqlite3 libraries. But the 82.211.39.133:2000 server mentioned on the home page is working, so there's no need to start another one. Also for the reason that everybody is immediately disconnecting this one, when there is no other player :( That's the simple way to make sure that one can meet no players :(

I've put a post regarding an irc channel we have set up on quakenet.org here
http://www.xcomufo.c...mp;#entry166214

I also have active server IP's posted there including one I've been trying to keep up for a while now.
Also since you can find other players there you can run your own servers easily if need be.

fair warning , we idle a lot in there to :D

Well, we are getting on our last legs server-wise.. This is our last one, it would help if we had some more backups, or at best, get out main server up.
Just thought that needed to be addressed, thanks.

that's kind of the purpose of the irc channel. Somewhere players can go that will (virtually) always be accessible and up. From there people can agree to play a game and run their own server or use one of the servers listed in the channel topic.
