Zora
Hey.. Something I've thought about for some time now.Would it be possible to implement vehicles such as tanks? That is something that I feel that have been missing, but I don't know if the engine would be able to support itnor do I know how to create them for the game! What are you thoughts on this? /Zora
bamb
I don't think real big thanks where soldiers went inside would fit the small scale tactical nature of X-COM where the maps are at max perhaps 100 meters across. For small robotic tanks (a bit like original x-com) there is one just created in the unit concepts thread, by Sporb. Exo2000
HWPs (like the classic X-COM ones) are in the works, apparently. As for larger vehicles, like bamb says, they would probably be inappropriate for the scale of the maps.
Popek
40x40 maps with bomber jets and dirtbiiiikes!yeah, this kind of stuff belongs in other games in my opinion.it would rob xcom/ufo2k of it's charm of a small squad battle. you could always stun your guys and have human mules carry them in backpacks
Zora
I was kinda thinking more down the lines of those that you see in XCOM / TFTD and this is not just tanks imthinking about, this could also be the something like the Sectopod, cyberdisc or the reaper though its organic. But other vehicles such as jeeps & trucks and other armored personel carriers, something in the scale of maybe from 2-4x/3-7x. Zora

Zora
yes as previously said HWP style tanks/terror units are in the works. i wonder if a chrysalid thread is next? j/k Cryssalids would be cool and Cryssalids have the ability to turn the other units into temporaryzombies rather than permanent. It could be so cool if the Cryssalid was made into a zombie unitwith the ability to turn other units into zombies, at least humanoids into zombies, hope it makes sense!? /Zora
jpb
Did anyone thougt about a droid like ED 209 or an AT-ST Walker, woundn't it be nice ? http://img362.imageshack.us/img362/4634/atstexemploth5.jpg Edited June 11, 2007 by jpb
Exo2000
ED 209 is really more like an HWP/Sectopod (although I'm not sure of it's exact sizing), whereas the AT-ST is an actual vehicle.
jpb
Yep, the AT-ST should only be used in limited situations like external base defence (base entrance) or outpost defense, sice it possess a great tactical advantage.
Edski
Here's the Coelacanth from TFTD. It's the original gfx, but enhanced it into a better shape and to look more like those fan-made gfx from UFO2K. In other words, its a fan-made graphic based on original TFTD grph... sort of. I don't know if it violates any laws, but if it doesn't, it really could be a good add into the game. As for the HWP itself, Coelacanth is IMO too much of a codename, as the plain tank was just called "tank" or "HWP" in Xcom 1. That could be a good vehicle for hostile/difficultt terain as the surcafe of the moon, Cydonia or underwater maps, that sort of stuff. Thanks. http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/5247/hwpcw2.png
