dthomas
I recently installed TFTD-CE on my functional antique, dust-bunny invaded Pentium III. During recent sweaty and stressful play, not only do I get the irritating 'click-pause' static sound (bearable) when I close the expanding menus/screens, but, worse than this, on the terror missions (port/island), there is a god-forsaken-blue-blistering-barnacles annoying wind or waves sound in the background (Psssssssssssssh-pshhhhhhhhhhh-pshhhhhhhhhh- get it?). Jeez - I just can't play the motherlickin' game with that nonsense droning on in the background. I tried turning off the sound (i.e. shut off the speakers, muted wave audio in win '98 sounds, etc.), yet, zounds! I miss all the screams and sneakin' aliens in the mission. I wanna' rock-n-roll-lose-control with the beasts, but s'no fun without the sound F/X. Any helpful tekkie suggestions would be most appreciated. Yeah this seems to be a glitch unique to the Windows version of the game. The sound files themselves are fine, it's how the game actually renders the soundin the windows environment. Having played the game in both DOS and Windows I can say that i have not eencountered this mysterious and annoying click so far in the DOSBox version. So....I guess that's about all there is to be said. Play the Dosbox version or just well get used to it. My suggestion. go for the DosBox. you'll have to do a little more finegling to get it patched and running but in the end it's better than having the F***ing Click.
