I used the installer, which download directX9.0c, and I manually installed the .NET framework 2.0 and the XNA Redistributable 1.0 thing (and yes I rebooted afterwards!)
People have suggested this problem is to do with the videocard. I just bought a new computer, and I have a GeForce 8800GT 512M.

(I read the other thread about this error, but couldn't find a solution. BTW I'm a complete noob, so please speak in layman's terms)

please got to your xenocide installation directory, find a file named "install.log" and post it here, or send it via pm to me.

Of course I have gone mad with power! It would be completely ridiculous to go mad without power!
And no, this is not a quote from the Simpson's movie, I want it on paper, that I actually wrote that quite some time before the movie came out.
