Frontiers End
First off thanks for reading, Hello, I have long played exceptional games such as the X-com sires on VMware. Now I know there is some debate on the quality (I am not to fond of the compatibility myself) But I have completed the first two so I wanted to tryout Apocalypse, Here are the Specs I have created a MS-DOS 6.22 in VMware VMware V6.5MS-DOS V6.22 Memory:2000MBHD:8 GBCD/DVD: Using XCOMA ISO on secondary HDProcessors:2 Drivers: OAKCDROMCutemouse v2.1 AUTOEXEC.BAT C:\DOS\SMARTDRV.EXE /XC:\DOS\MSCDEX.EXE /D:VMware /M:10LH C:\DOS\CTMOUSE.EXE@ECHO OFFPROMPT $p$gPATH C:\DOSSET TEMP=C:\DOSSET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 If you need anything else just ask Onto the symptoms After fresh Install Game runs perfect except for problem #2 But after a restart problem #1 starts 1 -On restart of the VM MS-DOS without changing any options or settings when trying to launch XCOM Apocalypse it reports that It can't open L:/xcom3/xcom3.cfg My VM CD/DVD drive is D:\ and I installed Xcom to C:\games\Xcoma and L:\ is not assigned. When I attempt to run Setup It informs me that the CD is not in the Drive When it is. 2 -When playing Xcom Apoc I experience sudden lagg and the game will stop for 1-9 seconds. This may or may not be related to the fact that the game reported a 18kbps CDROM speed even though it is runing of a ISO Image. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks
localhosed
I play x-com 3 occasionally and just came back to the forums to find an answer to another question, so the problems with installing and running that i had aren't fresh in my mind right now. I don't have any experience using VMWare to run Apoc but there is lots of information here on the forums and on VOGONS forums that might help you. Since i guess you have a relatively new CPU, maybe Dosbox would run Apoc fast enough on your PC as an alternative. It runs slightly too slow for my preference on my Athlon 64 4200+ in dosbox, but i would call it playable. My favorite setup is in windows XP with VDMsound for the fastest speed and best sound (as opposed to a o/s and cpu made around the time that apoc was made). Andy
You can configure dosbox to run xcom apoc faster, I believe the settings you gotta edit is the CPU cycles, try lowering that value.
