cloaked UFOs that won't decloak

Hi,

 

every once in a while (sometimes several battles in a row) a damaged UFO (especially the Phantasm) disappears after getting a certain amount of damage and it never reappears. Sometimes it's possible to track them by the 'tail' of energy that bleeds out of it but more often than not it's not possible.

 

Is this a bug or a feature. Because everytime that happens, the mission is as good as lost.
