This is something I've been thinking for the past days. Since it is fairly easy to defend from base defense missions on UFO if you correctly design your base I decided to throw in a few changes. It also fixes the Base Disjoint Bug.

I won't reveal much of what I've changed but here are a few things:
* Slight changes to the initial deployment areas of xcom and the aliens
* Light sources removed
* Map disposition changed to reduce the effectiveness of base layout strategies

I haven't done much playtesting so any comments would be appreciated. To install it, make a backup of the /MAPS and /ROUTES folders first (to revert to the older maps), then unzip the file to your main UFO folder.

Then play the game and wait for the aliens to appear. And be afraid... very afraid...

Edit: updated to version .02 with fixes to the spawn points and slight changes to some maps

Interesting idea!

But to be fair. To make base defense easier, you DO sacrifice building time of the base (ie takes much linger) and you sacrifice, typically 5 modules to dirt. So you do "pay" for having a safer base.

I'm starting to like the heavy cannon more and more.

Well... I don't even remember right now what this mod does exactly! LOL

But just to say that I'm currently with a project to replace all UFO Defense terrains - I've finished the Alpha for the Terror Site replacement.

It'd be nice if to ahve the XCOM base terrains 4 levels high. The lower two being the traditional stuff and the upper two being the ground above the base. But I'm not sure if this is possible.

Impossible I am afraid. EU maps have a limit of 10k tiles (space occupied by 1 soldier), with 4 levels you're limited to a 50x50 map (2500x4). Since XCOM bases are 60x60 they are limited to 2 levels.

Meanwhile if you want to try the new Terror Site (Dawn City) check this post
