Steam version of xcom1 runs really slow

I bought xcom1 at ebay some time back, but with dosbox the colors sometimes gets screwed up so i bought it at steam too, it looks a little better but runs really slow, especially the fights.. with ufo thingies.. battlescape? Its also quite slow when it zooms in on the air dog fights. I hit ctrl F12 but it says the cpu is at 100%, but still it is slow. Any tips on how to get it to run faster?

Have you tried decreasing the frameskip (CTRL-F7)?

Thanks for the reply, but it says frameskip is at 0 and the laggy cursor thingy doesn't improve.

Ok, how about decreasing the cycles (CTRL-F11), does that do anything?

Nope, doesn't change the slowness(is that a word?).

 

Would it be possible to run the steam version through dosbox?

STEAM's DosBox config has:

cycles=auto limit 8000

This removes the ability to manual control the speed. it auto controls the speed maxing out at 8000.

Steam TFTD has this:

cycles=auto limit 16000

 

If you just set it

cycles=9000

then set this

cycleup=500

cycledown=500

 

to adjust the speed

CTRL-F11 Slow down emulation (Decrease DOSBox Cycles).

CTRL-F12 Speed up emulation (Increase DOSBox Cycles).

 

Find the speed that works for you.
