A member not-quite-recently message me to continue my stories that I posted within the Concept/Fan Art section. Though I haven't been writing for a while, I have been reading a lot. I wonder if anyone else has wrote something either just for the heck of it or for the heck of it... hm... In any case, I will post my stories here and hopefully continue writing when I have the time. It'd be great if others also post their stories too. Try to edit post for continuous story and tell people your update in a new post with the link to the updated post. It'd be easier to read than trying to find the previous post. To start off, here's a short story.

*****

He sat down on the step of his porch and took a sip from a glass of cold chardonnay in his hand. Looking out, he took in the view of his lush garden... or forest. He lived on the top of a hill looking down on a small town to the east and a beautiful lake to the southeast. He is an isolator, if that is a word. He preferred to have a silent privacy than living with people.

That is not the entirely true. He has a "gift" that eavesdrop on people's thought. It started in his late teens. He never knew how it happened nor how to turn it on or off. The ability would sometimes turned itself on when he was in the market and all he could do was brace for the headaches from mind-numbing thunder of disjointed thoughts and images. When he was lucky, it would turn itself off in a few seconds. But he had been through a week of thundering thoughts when he was living in a city. No amount of pillows and blankets could cover the sound and images from the people living in the apartment, or in the the next building, or walking down the streets.

Even in the hills, he sometimes caught a few thoughts from the town below. He had considered moving farther away. He even scouted the forest and find a few good places that can sustain his necessities without depending on other people. But he had not scrounge up enough courage to be a hermit lest he wound up crazy from not hearing anyone at all.

As he took another sip, he saw a shiny dot in the sky. He squinted his eyes to see if he can make out what it was, but the dot moved so fast he almost lost track of it. Then the dot grew smaller and disappeared into the clouds. He kept staring at the spot until his eyes watered and he had to wipe the building tears away. Afterwards, he looked back at the spot for another few minutes and decided it was either his eyes playing tricks or whatever it was would not be returning.

He started to stand when he saw a massive object descending under the tree lines near the lake. He did not had a good look but it disappeared under the tree lines as if it were never there. Not knowing what to make of it, he jumped off his porch and into his car. He drove through the town, and what do you know. His "gift" thought it might be fun to play with him when he was driving. He grunted and tried to shake away the tension building around his head. He failed but he was exiting the town anyway. When he got past the last house, he floored the pedal and headed toward the lake.

His headache kept building even though he got farther from the town. He finally reached the lake, stepped out of his vehicle, and looked around. His headache had made him sweat so much his hair was wet. After a few minutes, he gave up on trying to stand and sat against his car door trying to squash his head out of existence. The thoughts that he was hearing was massive. Almost like standing in a waterfall. The pain built to a point where his consciousness no longer able to sustain and he collapsed into fetal position.

When he woke up, the moon was overhead and the spot he was on was wet from his sweat. His headache returns, but it was due to dehydration rather than thoughts bombardment. He sat there for a few minutes and thought it would be better to came back when he can see something. He stood up, turned around, and saw a pair of big black eyes glossed by moonlight staring at him from the other side of the car. He mentally thought of the date and realized it was a few days before Halloween.

But that thought only lasted a fraction of a second before he took in the whole view. The creatures had a big head and slim body like the classic "grey" aliens over-used by movie makers. It has some kind of pistol that looked like children toy-gun except it looked fused to its hand rather than holding it. Before he could say anything, his headache spiked with vengeance. He heard the creature's thought. No, he heard more than one. More than the creature in front of him. Another spike of pain so strong, he winced. The last thing he saw before his eyes were fully closed was an emerald light expanding into his view...

Base Defense
Project Xenocide Fan Fiction
*****

Sam took a quick aim and squeezed the trigger. Even after firing the XLW-01 Laser Pistol countless times, she still instinctively braced for the recoil that never came. Her aim was spot on and the discharged particles hit the target with precision. The stack of wood covered with gasoline burst to life... and the party began.

They were celebrating for their first and successful mission in taking down an alien compound. Casualties were low since there were not as many aliens as they had originally thought. The scientists figured they probably just setup shop and was not fully crewed when the team infiltrated the base. That theory also proved why the base did not seem to have weapon stockpiles and many empty chambers yet to be filled. However, the engineers stripped the base piece by piece, which means stockpiles of alien alloys for the scientists have to play with or the engineers to, hopefully, make more combat armors.

Sam had the most kill in this hunt. She put down ten out of the twenty something gray bobble heads. Fortunately, there were no artropods in sight even though they are usually found with the Greys in other base strikes or terror sites. Unfortunately, she had to kill her best friend in the team. He had rained down bullets under psionic control and severely injured some of her teammates. She pushed her grief down along with the synthetic beer and joined in the howling and cheering of the entire base.

The party ended almost as soon as it started. UFO sirens blared off and red lights blazed along the corridors as they ran back to the various armories within the base. Their only offensive craft, XC-1 Gryphon, was launched fully armed and fueled as the soldiers prepared for another UFO salvage. After a few minutes of aerial ballets and acrobats, the base siren changed its tune. The aliens had destroyed their only spear and changed course. They were heading straight toward the X-Corps Base.

Sam barked her orders as the new team captain and her soldiers split up to their respective posts. Hangars, lifts, and some went back to the surface as first line defense. They recently had a budget cut before the alien base raid and lost the funding for the much needed base protection. The base commander was out to meet whoever it was that funded X-Corps to give them heck about not giving enough funding for base defense. He was a little too late. Civilian staffs consisting scientists, engineers, medics, clerics, and janitors headed toward the underground bunkers and sealed themselves in praying that X-Corps Operatives would win the day else they would have no hope of any rescue.

The surface was taken over quickly. Soldiers return to the base and sealed the access lift, but the doors did not hold for long. Swarms of Vipers started to descend welcomed by streaks of bullets and laser beams. One hangar's gate blasted open, pouring in cursed Spawns. The zombie makers were held back by a barrage of ammunition from various laser and projectile weapons. The troops held their post for what they felt like a lifetime. They were right. A couple Vipers managed to fire off Gravity Distortion Drones destroying the barricades they hid in. Shock waves and shrapnel blasted the soldiers into ribbons leaving the hangar defenseless. Spawns and Vipers rushed into the hangar and split down the corridors. When other soldiers realized their flank had been breached, it was already too late. The Spawns had multiplied their number with every person they struck, and Vipers mercilessly hunted down targets either by burning their preys with plasma or tearing into expose flesh with their fangs.

Sam knew something was wrong when no updates came from two teams. She called out retreat order to her hangar which housed the XC-11 Condor handed down from the main base. She could do nothing about the civilians and did not put more thought into it than necessary. Her troops arrived from multiple locations still firing down the corridors. She knew it was a breach of protocol to launch crafts during base attacks, but she had her tech specialist, who was equipped with the EEG implant required to fly X-Corps crafts, bypass the security systems and initiated the launch sequence. The landing pad started to rise and the camouflaged hangar doors hissed open ever so slowly above them. Some of the troops kept their weapons train at the hangar doors and blasted anything that appeared and others kept their barrage of ammo toward the corridors. Once the hangar doors opened wide enough for the Condor to pass, she barked the order to strap in. The Condor lifted off before the landing pad reached the surface. The pilot increased the vertical thrust as much as the craft could muster and they flew straight up and out of the hangar barely fitting through the opening doors.

They were not out of the water yet. The Juggernaut that carried the infiltrating aliens opened fire. The pilot roughly weaved through the barrage of plasma from the alien ship and from the ground. One of the crafts engine was hit and exploded, ripping out the side of the hull and pulled away the soldiers nearby. The craft spiraled downwards as the only engine left unable to compensate for the imbalance. Against all hope, Sam saw streaks of Titan Heavy Missiles struck the alien ship. The main base had sent reinforcement and she cheered quietly behind her gritting teeth. The hull behind her exploded pushing her off her feet and through the hole on the other side of the craft. The last thing she remembered was falling through the air looking up at the spiraling Condor.

Author's Note: Hopefully I ironed out the grammar and spelling kinks. Did some more research this time so hopefully a better reading to you all.

*****

She jolted to wake and immediately attacked by blinding light. She held her hands out to shield her eyes and rapidly blink away the sudden perception onslaught. Then she saw her nakedness. Her ungloved hand she did not recognize, her skiny forearms that looked alien. She lowered her arm and she saw five or six bobble heads staring at her stupefied. Then she noticed the equipments, the inability to move under the waist, and the bloodied non-existent legs under her knees. She screamed and screamed and collapsed back once again as unconsciousness took hold.

*****

Sam opened her eyes slowly and stared up into darkness. Miniature lights started to appear and she remembered. She sat up immediately and found her legs. Her Legs! They were covered in... in pants and boots. She looked down and found herself in her battle gear. Combat Armor, weapon, and all. She looked up and saw stars, and looked down and saw tall grass. What the h- She lied back hard, weapon raised, before her brain process the rustled behind her.

A moment later someone appear among the grass. Someone human. Her heart thumped and she laid her weapon across her chest with a sigh. Without warning, the person leaped over her with a snarl. Her training took hold before she understood the problem and opened fire straight up. Multiple holes appeared and the person fell back. She stood up immediately continuing to put more and more holes until she ran out of ammo and empty her last clip for good measure. The best way to deal with a zombie. Make sure it stays dead.

She dropped her assault rifle and pulled out her Laser Pistol. She survey her surrounding and saw the transport about five yards away still burning brightly. That meant she has only been out for a few minutes. She looked down at the twitching corpse and squeeze her Laser Pistol on it's head till the pistol felt warm.

So what the heck was that? She was back to the thought as she walked away from the transport, not taking a chance if the fuel had not exploded. Then her sight blurred and darkness took hold. She did not feel the ground.

*****

She tried to open her eyes but her eyelids were heavy. She tried again to manage only a small crack. The lights were blinding in soft focus as her eyes tried to work properly. Then darkness crossed in front of her. And another, and another. She finally manage to open her eyes a bit more and slowly looked down to find herself naked again. She noticed her skin was the wrong color and no longer has limbs. She was too tired to care. Her eyelids were so very heavy and she gave in.

*****

Sam jolted up and grabbed something.

"Relax! Relax!" A voice yelped in surprise.

She looked toward the direction of the voice to find she was balling her hand on a man's, well, balls. She released her hand as fast as she could and rubbed her hands on the grass. "Eeww!"

"Eeww?" The man knelt down with his hands covering his jewels soothing away the pain. Breathing rapidly he look at her in a mix of pain and disbelieve. "Eeww!? That hurt!"

"Sorry." She said while rubbing her hands on her pants, rising. She looked at the man. Mocha skinned, short-cropped hair, squared-jaw, brown eyes, military singlets, pants, and boots. He had an odd rifle looking weapon between his kneeling legs. "Who are you? What is that? And why are you here?"

"Huh?" He looked up at her and then down at the weapon. He slowly stood up one hand covering his jewels and another holding the weapon. "People says it's polite to introduce yourself before asking." He grinned, "especially when the stranger is holding awesome looking gun."

Sam stared at him for a moment. An emerald blaze streaked between them right before she opened her lips. They looked at each other, cursing their own stupidity, for a fraction of a second and hugged the ground. Sam squeezed off a few light show toward the a couple of vipers. One was hit on it's chest plate but it simply staggered and shrugged it off. Then the vipers started to rain green lights toward them. Sam saw the man aiming at one of the vipers and released a laser so much brighter than her handgun.

"I know what I want for Christmas..." She muttered and the man grinned. Then he targeted another and put a hole in it's face, and another lost the limb holding the plasma gun then the lower jaw. They stayed in position for a moment then slowly rose from the grass. Not finding anymore threats at the moment, Sam took the opportunity to dash back toward the base with the man right behind her.

The surface of the base are camouflaged by landscape, plant life, a couple building, and an airstrip. She dashed toward one of the smaller buildings, where the emergency cache were stored. She needed something other than what she now called glorified flashlight.

A few aliens were still queuing to enter the lift to the base when the reached the building. It was a few yards down. She checked her equipments and found a couple of grenades. She passed one behind her without looking and felt it plucked out of her hands. Then they both pulled their pins. As the man gave an overhead throw, Sam waited a second then went low and roll the grenade toward the vipers and spawns. The aliens saw the overhead grenade and tried to flee away from it and right into Sam's. The double explosion took care of the aliens, but more would come soon to check on it.

Sam gave another full dash toward the building across where she was hiding and drop kicked the door. She went into a roll and stop on a kneel with weapon up. The man walked in casually and looked amused. "Quite an entrance." And closed the door behind him.

"Shut up. More will come very soon. I suggest we stock up and stay alive." She said as she went around the room flipping tables and chairs. She found the access point and insert her dog tags. One side of the floor slid away and weapon racks rose up.

"Haleluya!" The man said laughing and threw the Laser Rifle to Sam. She almost dropped her Laser Pistol. "Merry Chirstmas!" He said as he raid the rack for one of his favorite weapon, VARC - Variable Ammo Repeater Cannon. Sam watched him scrounged up an X-Corp equipment belt and put it on with ease. He filled the pockets with all types of ammo: Armor Piercing, High Explosive, and Incendiary. He fitted in an AP round and carried the heavy weapon with ease.

"Who are you? How do you know how to handle X-Corps Equipments? And where did you get this Laser Rifle?" She said and slowly pointed both her Laser Pistol and Laser Rifle at him. He looked up from admiring his newly acquired baby and smirked. "People says it's polite-" She squeezed her Laser Pistol and burned the floor between his feet. It may not be as powerful as the rifle, but it could kill man much easier than aliens.

"Alright! Alright!" He said as he held up his free hand in retreat. "Sergeant James Wilson. X-Corp, Area 51." He said with a mock salute. "I was suppose to report to the captain before this whole thing. They said he was a strict one. Anyway, after the base got attacked, I was told the new team captain is some guy called Sam something. The alarm was loud. I suppose it doesn't matter now, does it?"

"What? You were from the main base?"

"Well, I was transported in while you were in the base attack, the alien one, and was told to wait. I got bored and walked around and before I know it, I was in bed with this beautiful lady from the mess hall." He said with a wide grin. "Then the alarm blared, and as I said, I tried to find the team captain. Got lost and ended up in R&D. That shiny thing was just sitting on the workbench so I grabbed it. Good thing too, or I'd just be skin now."

"Wait. James Wilson... James Wilson the guy who single-handedly kill a scouting party of bobble heads with nothing but Molotov cocktails and a shotgun? That James Wilson?"

"Well, they were trying to kill my pa. Their ship destroyed our crops. What else was I supposed to do?" He said with a hint of sadness. "Besides there was that tractor that I used to smultch a couple of them, but I suppose that is not quite a weapon, is it?" and grinned at her again. She so has to wipe that face.

"Captain Samantha Osako. X-Corp, Japan." She said sharply. That wiped his face. She hid a smile.

"Sir, Ma'am" James stumbled then stood straight, despite the heavy weapon. "Ma'am, I apologize for being impolite, Ma'am!"

She walked over to the rack and hook a few grenades. She decided to take an Assault Rifle with her after hearing what James said about where he got the Laser Rifle. Well, I suppose this is field test. Let's see how well it holds up.

"At ease, sergeant." She said turning around. "You finish?"

"Yes, Ma'am!" He relaxed a little, but only just.

"Sergeant. Really. We are not that stiff and strict here. Relax. And stop calling me Ma'am. That's an order. Makes me feels like someone's mother."

He relax some more with a sigh and a small smile.

"I thought I saw Titans hitting the Juggernaut. Did you noticed what happened?"

"Yes, Ma'am. Uh, sorry. I was actually with you in the Condor. Some blast pulled away the armor behind me and I fell. Landed on a spawn, believe it or not." He did a mock shiver. "Then I saw an XC-1 firing Titans toward the Juggernaut. It was the XC-1 that rushed me here since I was suppose to go to the alien base with you. Anyway, I think he ran out of ammo. He turned around and probably returning to 51."

"Oh. How bout rescue from 51?"

"Well, we are in Japan. And 51 is in the States. It will take a while."

"Right." She checked her Laser Rifle. She was about to give a squeeze when she remembered where she was. Not a good place to test untested weapons. She gave a loud sigh and walk to the exit.

"Let's go save some people."

A.N: Probably lots of mistakes or something. Kinda just write as I go moments.

***** update: 04/06/10

Peeking through the crack of the door, they saw a Viper with a Plasma Rifle in hand coming down the path. Sam considered and discarded immediately using her shuriken skill. Viper's hard leather and armor would be hard to penatrate with throwing knives. The Viper had to be downed unnoticed by others. Slipping behind it would be impossible since they'd be upwind.

Returning to the weapon racks, she removed her guns and took out a weapon only available to X-COrps Japan, an alien alloy katana. The engineers had to device a special forge so the blacksmiths could heat the alloys to a moldable temperature. In the hand of speacialists, alien alloy katanas are capable of cutting harden steel and punch through reinforced cement. Or Viper's hard skin.

"Are you serious?!" whispered James, his eyes betraying the tone of his voice.

Sam gave a grim smile and prepare herself in front of the door.

Closing her eyes, she gathered her focus and slipped into attack stance.

"Open the door wide when I give the sign."

Deep breath. In. Out. In. Out.

She swiftly enter the "empty zone" as she was thought in her training. Her focused senses picked up more information about her surroundings. The smell of gun oil, discarged powder, and ozone. The staling air on her skin. James's breath, calm and even. The noise outside the door: explosions, rapid fire, shrapnels. Useless information, discard. Finally, she picked up on the the soft rubbing of Viper's belly and the ground. She could feel it's whole being through the door. Damn it, it's right in front of the door.

She opened her eyes, and... What the heck. Her eyes were seeing in different spectrum and her tounge picks up warm body behind a door. She looked down and saw Viper's claw and a Plasma Rifle wrapped around an arm. She is the Viper. What. The. Freakin. heck!! She opened the door and saw James trying to wake her up. Her! Me!

James noticed the sudden draft and immidiately face the door, lifting his VARC. He saw something that is very unpredicted. The Viper holding up it's arm as if saying "I surrender". He started the barrel rotation and the Viper frantically hissed and tried to drop the Plasma Rifle but seems like it didn't know how to use the weapon. Giving up, the Viper lifted it's weapon hand and point back and forth between itself and Sam lying on the floor. Then he got the meaning.

"Ma'am?" He asked disbelievingly and the Viper made a noise like a groan and slap a hand to its forehead.

"Uh, sorry. Captain?" The Viper nodded furiously.

"Uh. Ok. How?" The Viper gave a very human shrug.

"Right. Can you return to your body? It's kinda creepy." He said as he lowered the VARC. The Viper gave another angry hiss and point at the VARC and to itself. Then roll it's claw telling James to keep the rotation. He did so.

Then it pointed at itself and the Captain on the floor and lifted it's shoulders.

"You have no idea how to get back to your body?" James ventured and the alien nodded slowly but changed it to a quick shake. Then it pointed at the VARC and to itself, and became still.

After a minute, the Viper jerked awake and looked around as if disorriented. In a split second, Sam rose and immidiately cleaved off it's head with one clean stroke. James could only watch with his jaw hanging.

Sam staggered and sat, shaking her head furiously. "ow." Then she stood up slowly, gathering her weapons, and sheathed her katana. She lifted her eyes and look straight into James's. "Not a word."

"But," he started and swiftly stopped himself. Her eyes told him he'd be dead otherwise.

"I'll..." she hesitated. "I'll find some help when this situation is over."

Without waiting, she walked out the door and head toward the lift entrance of the base. James was close behind.

Well done. :)

Your first story reminds me of something: while the lack of E115 is stated in many sources detailing the post Xcom1 timeline, there's no mention of the developed psychic abilities of Xcom telepaths. If I were a commander threatened with shut-down, I'd use that power to get my way. What do you think?

Awesome! Great stuff, was wondering when you would get around to it. :)
"Burning propose. Etched forever in the mind as slow curves pulled upward into spikes.
Dark wings framing an almost human death skull. Almost, but for the fangs of the beast.
A creast for killers. Find it and you find the chalice, and the dark wing. Only five years remain."
