Work in progress. New game in development!

Based on X-COM: UFO Defense (UFO: Enemy Unknown)

Reconstruction on a 3D-engine with new elements.

It is not just full-remake of old game, it is more like game in x-com universe with main game-play elements.

 

First and Main:

Game is developing as free project by small team of fans on UDK (Unreal Engine 3).

Already done:

 

GEO-mode:

Not many done, because main point is tactics mode

Made:

- Rotating camera around Earth

- Simple solar system with sun, earth, space, lensflare

- Time changing

 

Tactics mode:

Tactics mode now has pre-alpha state.

Made:

- isometric camera

- camera controlled with WASD and mouse.

- virtual grid, stick objects to grid

- random creatures location

- creatures movement with mouse

- basic random map generation with random location of ships, houses, ufos etc.. etc..

- simple AI

- characteristics system of creatures

- many effects

- Time Units system: all creatures uses TU in all actions

- simplest turn-based mode

- other stuffs

 

In progress:

- weapon models

- creatures models

- ships

- web-site

- user interface and menus

Really good alpha progress from the videos. You should post your game on moddb.com and then recruit from there.

 

Tons of amatuer game developers there.

 

But keep us X-Com fans updated here also.

Just drop by the forums, either create a thread or just shoot me a PM there (same username), we like to keep a tab on x-com projects and can make news post to be shown on the main page when you achieve significant progress :) I visit these forums from time to time, but not too often and I tend to skip a lot of threads as there are too many news when I show up, so I may miss your updates.

after seeing the vid, I suggest to do things a bit differently. I have always dislike the way autoshots are shown.

 

suggestion one: maybe you could make it so before the camera move, the unit would shoot multiple times (3x) and camera moves quickly to the target (if target is not on the same screen) and see whether the ammo hit or missed.

 

suggestion two: a VERY different view idea is to show a PiP (Picture-in-Picture) for each ammo. basically, if the ammo went off screen, floating panels would appear showing the ammos travel while the main screen will stay centered on the unit. panels should only appear in autoshots and not when panicked (unless the ammo hit a unit).

 

anymore updates? screen caps?

I am an experienced 3d artist and i would like to contribute. If anyone could post any advice what's needed the most ( models , textures, UVLayouts) I will gladly try to make it happen.

I would really appreciate any hint how can I best serve the idea of the project.

I have another idea where you could look for UDK programmers.

 

You could add your game (with information about recruiting) to www.indiedb.com database. There are many udk projects there:

So there should be people knowing udk.

also we are looking for new game-designer.

here is many people with "creative text department", i dont know what it means but i think it is some like writer or game-designer, so if some one from xenocide wants to.. it would be great. but that someone should be 1. with experience 2. be not stupid guy who thinking he is a god.. :)

 

this message is doubled in another thread.. (because there more activity from xenocide members)
