Chris StarShade
Once upon a time, after I finished watching the series Neon Genesis Evangelion, and deciding that it was not my cup of tea...(Funny how it took watching the whole series to decide I didn't like it) I looked up "Neon Genesis Evangelion sucks" on google, and lo and behold, I find a site that claims that Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of the only serieses where the reviewer liked the fan-fiction better than the original. And so, I clicked the link to fan-fiction... What does this have to do with X-COM? The author of Neon Exodus Evangelion did not just use NGE elements, but elements from certain other sources as well. The ones I can remember are: Tomb Raider, X-Files, Babylon 5, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Half-Life, and... yes, of course X-COM The following is true about the universe of NXE: The Soviet Union never collapsed. There WAS an Alien War in 1999 (and maybe a bit after '99) but it was over before the events of 2001: A Space Odyssey could take place. (It is not clear that T'Leth exists as such, but it could possibly exist in the future, note I say in the future... in this particular universe it would not be as ancient as X-COM scientists would declare). Finally, there is a space station designated Babylon 2 in orbit of the planet. It is unclear if the events of Half-Life took place, but regardless one of the elements of the fan-fic refers to an HEV suit. Go figure. The nature of the X-COM aliens is vastly different in this universe than it is in the 'canon' X-COM universe, but you might find it amusing nonetheless. You don't have to be an NGE fan to enjoy this, but a vague familiarity of the series would help out.
