Hmm ok so I was trying to design a new alien race just for fun and I came up with this....

(Image of my drawing missing since I don't have a scanner, eh)

it's a little fella with a face like this: o_O

He's about 1 foot tall but floats inside a 7 feet tall black three piece suit with a tie. You can see his pants float behind his feets on the wind as the alien floats toward you... (you don't see his legs or feet since the suit is waaay too long for him, but not too large)

(overuse of the verb float since my english isn't good enough to find an appropriate synonym...)

when he reached reasonable ranged, he raises his arm in your direction, kinks his head and terrible light comes out of his eyes and out of where his hands should be, but aren't

the light floods you, burns you, scars you.

(booooh)

and the armor melt, and the three burns, and women, children and men alike cry like it's the end of the world, which it is.

I also thought that the first mission you get with those guys, you can't even hit them... you have to abandon the mission and research a new technology in order to capture one, study it and find it's weak spot...

Another thought... when you raid an alien base, you capture some high ranked alien, right?

Well when they go do a terror site that you never heard of, they get scientists as well.......or leaders... or something... so you could have missions to go get them...

I know it's early to discuss such details and I'm not totally convinced this is a good idea, but I'm trying to brainstorm ;P

I'll try to get a scan of my lil guy, too.

Oh btw forgive my weird english, my primary language is french...
I have the strangest of faith for this project...

hmmm.. it sounds spooky, thats for sure. But i don't think it would be good for X-com.

I was just watching Stargate: Sg1 last night, and I was thinking of the possibly of an alien super-soldier. Like mutons, but meaner (actually like lobstermen from tftd :) )

They would be difficult to kill (2 blaster bombs!) , have a melee attack in addition to any guns he is carrying, and would be vlunerable to lasers (like sectopod. He could be a robot or whatever, or just a genetically engineered muton, I don't know) They would be really rare and would only be 2 on a large/v. large ship, they would be highly resistant to plasma, explosives, incindieary, and ap. They should be tall (almost an entire square) and should look built. In addition, they should wear armor. :)
Lastly, they should be mindless. I'm thinking that they would do everything to finish a mission. For instance, if one was deployed at a terror site, then he would ignore your guys and slaughter civilians unless your guys shot at him. (Kind of like the borg.) Or, if he was in a ufo you shot down, he would do your best to slaughter your guys. :D

Just a thought, because mutons are incredibly weak once you get psi, and realtively weak if you have decent armor and weapons.

Edit: Oh yeah, I realize this would be for version 2+

Ok, well lobster men are like mutons, except a lot meaner. They are virtually immune to just about every weapon except melee and stun, they have a hth attack, and they have like 150hp. And an armor rating almost as good as a power suit.

Check out the tftd ufopedia on xcomtftd.com site for the lobsterman and all the other lame monsters of TFTD. Heh.

Here I go an angry brother gonna make his move
But can I buck him in the city so I never lose?
See I'm a get him in the crowd with a couple heavies
And lay the barrel to the ground, hold the gat steady
And now I'm ready for my adversary, talk is cheap
I'm looking for a way to make a plan gonna keep it neat
So don't be telling me to get the non-violent spirit
'cause when I'm violent is the only time the devils hear it
'cause all I want to see is m****f***ing brains hanging

Nope, most of the aliens are harder actually (terror aliens excluded, tentaculat and triscene included.)

Sure the tftd monsters were rather lame, but they were powerful to make up for their lameness.

That's what I said didn't I :P

I think there should be aliens that don't come into the game until X-Corps are really kicking some alien chuddies :)

Hmmm... when you think about it, the lobster man was the TFTD version of the muton. and if you ever get to play that game, lobster men are actually very vulnerable to Armor piercing weapons, especially the vibro stuff. However, for range attacks, an armor piercing gas cannon is also pretty effective. only problem was that they don't pack as much raw damage.

Anyway, let's not stop our imagination there. I was thnking more on the lines of Apoc's Mega Alien. And this alien actually plays like a battle map. You enter through some opening. You blast some internal defense systems. You try to destroy the heart or the brain.

Or here's another idea, super alien appears on the battlescape as a 4x4 creature that's 3 levels high. He has several attacks and can actually root buildings with his bare tentacles.

How's about that?

good idea, but I was thinking more of a super duper muton for my uber alien. Maby we can have 2 uber aliens!

Apoc's mega alien? You mean the buildings? Or the queen?

Anyway, Jim you were right, I misread your post.

No, it wasn't the queen i'm referring to. I forgot the name. This one was as big as a building and you needed to use your vehicles to shoot it.

Oh, the overspawn!

Are you suggesting to have something like that in the battlescape?
Or, his insides as a battlescape map in of itself.

I think all powerful aliens should be weak against lasers. But thats just me.

You will have ask warhamster what he meant by the ultra alien. I don't know.
Maby as a balance ultra aliens could show up after mutons, and only when you are kicking major alien donkey?

Which brings up the "why would'nt the aliens bring in the big guns early"... Maybe somewhere in there, just as you are getting the hang of trouncing our alien invaders... a different group of aliens shows up and eventually wipes out the first grou pof races...

Hrm...

There's quite a few posts about how 2 explain why they don't send everything straight away, especially if u r being the aliens.

You are always talking about strong big aliens.

What about small and weak but fast and sneaky ones? maybe a total new cration.

Don't ask me waht of kind they do. Maybe like Zerglings who are in great number and swarm around and want to bite you. With low armor realy ugly and while you kill this creaturs and use your last TU and ammo the sectos give you the rest. :explode:

Eureka!

Thanks! How about a alien that is small, incredibly weak (1 hit human pistol kills) is really fast (this alien=sonic the hedgehog, chryssalid=turtle) and when it attacks you, it turns you into a alien! (Aliens hatch out of your body, like chryssalid. Or unit is controled for the rest of the map, like a brainsucker. If you stunned your guy, you would get him back.)

I must say thanks for giving me that idea. My mug goes out to you Fimbul

Other than the turning u into an alien it's a good idea, we already have 1 alien that does that so it just aint originial IMO. I never like brain suckers in Apoc, it is just a blatent rip off from Aliens.

Ya know, I think that may have been a throw away comment but that could actually work. U'd ave 2 give em all u got straight away, they'd be as thick as 2 planks of wood yet in a way they could be the most dangerous.

oh damned what did i start :whatwhat:

I didn't thought so strong! More like a dog pack (alien version). Maybe if you come to close at their ship they open a door and alot of "dogs" run to you realy fast and a incredible high reaction. maybe they kill your first guy without any shoot from your side. Poor canon food who have to run until the ship, with primed high exlosive grenads. --> he die --> boooom--> maybe some "dogs" are death :devillaugh:

Or they are around in the map and attack you if they see you, sometimes only one or two, sometimes a pack of 5 or more. They have not to be strong dmg dealer, they have to bite your unarmored troops 3 or 4 times for kill. But they have alot of TU and can bite you alot (each one <_< )

Maybe there can be stronger versions at the later game, guard "dogs" for etherals
