  1. Hi everyone! This year marks Terror From the Deep's 20th birthday (and by the looks of it XCOM2 will be out at the end of the year) so I decided to do something special: giveaway 10 FREE TFTD Steam keys! This isn't a contest, just a straight giveaway so almost everyone can enter. If you want to read about the ground rules, the fine print and enter the giveaway, head on over to the StrategyCore forums, create an account (if you haven't yet) and post "I'm in!" in this topic. It's just that easy. My tentative end date is set for the 31st of July so you still have a little time, but don't wait too long! - Zombie
  2. The Heavy Lasers' stats are identical to the PC version (84% Aimed Shot, 85 damage). The stats you mention for the PC version are a modification made by XcomUtil and was used erroneously by the site here. - Zombie
  3. The biggest difference between the PC and PSX version is that the PSX version is "cleaner". It has better music, sound effects, animated UFOPaedia entries, right click behind a door opens it without walking through and a lot of the bugs have been eliminated too. (Off the top of my head: primed Proximity Grenades now work between turns, mission ends when all aliens are dead or stunned, vertical waypoints for blaster bombs are possible, no difficulty bug, etc). For those reasons alone I'd be playing this version of the game all the time. Unfortunately, you can't easily mod this version and the load times for missions can be extraordinarily long. I'm not sure how long the load times in the PSP though. - Zombie
  4. Not sure what's going on with the weight issue there. Corrupted obdata.dat in the geodata folder maybe? Try overwriting it with a fresh copy. No, those factors are not used to determine crash damage. The actual damage done is simply a random number between 180 and 250. This variance translates to some very big differences on the battlescape though. I did some quite extensive tests on this over at the X-COM wiki at the UFO Crash Recovery talk page. It even includes screenshots of the min and the max. - Zombie
  5. Yes, please do. That would be my vote. - Zombie
  6. You can't get blood from a turnip, but j'ordos is squeezing every last drop of functionality out of Apoc. Amazing stuff. - Zombie
  7. I often asked myself the same question. When I first started playing I'd opt to reload and try again just to see if there was a way to win. You can develop all sorts of good strategies this way. But with this game there is always a factor of randomness which is involved: while a strategy may work in a playthrough of one mission, it may not work at all in another playthrough even though everything is the same. I've long since given up trying to guess the randomness and just accept the outcome now. - Zombie
  8. Oh stewart, please enlighten me on how evil you once were. Twas me. Only I didn't post 4000 times and I wanted to "donate" my posts to a certain someone here on the forums. Eh, nevermind that, water under the bridge now. - Zombie
  9. I was curious about this too a while back so I sent stewart a PM asking him about it. Apparently the casino was created for folks who constantly complained about how low their post count was. Basically it allowed you to "wager" all of your posts on a spin on the wheel of fortune which would double your post count or reduce it to 0. The wheel was heavily weighted against the member winning though, so a successful spin was rare. How much it was weighted, I don't know, but it quickly fixed the issue of people complaining about post counts. That, and spamming raves of course. He's been around. - Zombie
  10. Not sure what the issue is, but have you checked the options button in-game? There are speed settings in there for how fast you or the aliens move and fire. Perhaps one of them is set too slow? - Zombie
  11. I'm almost positive that UFOExtender and XcomUtil are compatible with each other because as Blade mentions, XcomUtil modifies the executable(s) while UFOExtender edits stuff in memory when the game is loaded. If you are still worried about conflicts, I'd suggest installing and getting XcomUtil to run first. If the game runs fine, then install the extender too. If something doesn't work after the extender is installed, then you may want to leave a message for Seb76 at his user discussion page at the X-COM wiki. - Zombie
  12. Really? Unless my math is totally wrong, that puts your current age at 3. (1994+13=2007, 2010-2007=3). - Zombie
  13. Turn off all running apps in your system tray and close all open programs. Some have a tendency to mess with the palette when X-COM is running. - Zombie
  14. Bomb Bloke's Toolkit may also help. - Zombie
  15. Smoke only creates stun in X-COM soldiers, not aliens so you are out of luck in that respect. Low power weapons tend to stun aliens more than killing them, so that approach may be better. - Zombie
