  1. The slippery slope of subjective censorship is best avoided by staying at the very top of the slope, or the very bottom. It's much cleaner at the top, and at worst forces us to use more of the English vocabulary we were supposedly taught.
  2. Great job Mam, let us know when you start work on Battlefield:Xenocide!
  3. In the immortal words of South Park's twitch, "AGGHHHH!!!!" I've never been a fan of April fools, particularly since this joke could so easily be true. Just because a crime was commited in the past, does not mean it can't be prosecuted in the today. Nice sig Kafros!
  4. http://projectxenocide.blogspot.com/ has a sample using blogger. I picked out the latest posts and put them in there, as well as the template for the home page. The bar across the top can come out once the page is hosted on a server other than blogger. The top post there has some more info on it all. If people like this, I can add some members to the posting group, and they can try it out. Send me an email: breunor at gmail dot com, and I'll send an invite to the address. I tend to take a couple days between visits here, so emailing me is the quickest way to reach me, compared to PMs here.
  5. My home page uses blogger, so that's also an easy option. I host my own page, but the content is generated by blogger when I post a new entry, and then FTP'd to my site. Xenocide's homepage has a center iframe if I recall, which is calling the current news page by default. So what we can do, is set up that page to be updated via blogger, and give access to post in that blog to whoever needs access. You can set how many posts you want, or how old they should be, before they are split into archives. You can then make a drop down list or list of links to the archives. Check out my homepage link below to see how that works, I think it would work well here, and be very simple to implement, no programming needed.
  6. I might be able to help out with this, seeing as how I built the homepage and many of the pages off of it. It's been quite a while since that happened and I agree that not many changes have occured. I can try to do weekly updates to things such as artwork, creative text samples, or whatever you feel's appropriate. My homepage (www.maddox-tudor.net) uses some simple javascript for random pictures and SSI and menu creation; I could include a few scripts which would put a random picture of the day or text of the day up, with links to other entries as well as prompts that a user register on the forum to see all the current work. The only thing I need to know is the current ftp information and the folder location for current assets. This might allow me to fix the X-Net page as well, assuming the text entries are still compiled into xml format. If anyone with the proper info could send me a message about ftp info, and where current pics/texts are being stored on the server, I'll see what I can do. (as an aside, if you are used to just linking a pic or text within a forum post, realise it might be harder or impossible to recover such info after a forum crash, compared to it being stored in a ftp folder and linked to. It's also easier to use the data in other areas that way too, especially if threads get moved and their links change)
  7. The most famous line Arnold Schwarzenegger ever spoke? Yeah, "I'll be back" here and there. Work is still taking most of my time at work (doesn't that suck?!?), and World of Warcraft has devoured the rest of my soul. So mostly my visits will be brief ones; hopefully I can offer some comment on texts.
  8. [Creaky closet door opens, and a dusty, hunched-over form emerges, blinking at the bright lights] That's looking very good Az! For that first sentence, I was also looking at the use of commas and wondering how to smooth it out: "The XC-22 Eclipse Fighter-Transport aircraft is an advanced, Alien-based, replacement for the XC-11 troop transporter." Perhaps it could read: "The XC-22 Eclipse Fighter-Transport aircraft is a technologically advanced replacement for the XC-11 troop transporter, [and is] based on cutting-edge alien design." It's really a personal preference issue regarding word flow, IMO either would be fine here. Keep up the nice work! [suddenly looking about in a worried fashion, the decrepit visitor shuffles back into the closet muttering about leveling his alliance Paladin]
  9. It should show the file limit when posting, while posting this it says global space left=0kb. Not sure what the issue is there. Feel free to use whatever you like, although I'd check with Vaaish first to make sure you get the latest version of a model, I know there are various ones floating around. You'll find a texture folder in there with hundreds of tile-capable textures too, just FYI.
  10. You hit it on the head there. My avatar is a gif, loaded on this server, and it still runs (last time I looked). The starcraft gifs are on a different server. But the key is to make the gif the same size as that allowed before uploading it, other wise the size change tends to limit it to the first frame or something like that. Your gif is 96x60 px, while the avatar limit is 64x64px. There's a website that allows you to edit animated gifs, just search for that if you don't have a tool already.
  11. Hey Mad Menno, welcome to the project, the signs look nice. Unless it's changed, I think recruits don't have ftp access to upload files, but you can zip up the model and texture files in a single .zip file, and attach it to your post for safe keeping. We've had many great models made that disappear with the user when they leave without posting the files, or their PC crashes and they have to start over. I've lost many hours of work that way... So unless I'm mistaken, you can post the zipped files here for safe keeping, and once you've become a regular you'll be promoted to regular member and get ftp info which allows you to store these files in a central location. While not the official storage spot for art assets at this point, here's some other models and textures and various bits you can use in your designs. I can't recall where the official location is ATM.
  12. You can rely on the texture for some of the details you're currently modeling too. As to the hands, I suggest a mitten style with indents between the fingers, since you'll either see the soldier with hands at the sides or holding a weapon. That might help resolve the realism issue and also reduce poly count for in game. Just a suggestion.
  13. Relative paths are definitely the easiest to maintain. I might be able to help, although with the holidays coming up I might not be online as often. I think Micah trusts me with ftp access by now, and my web resume includes www.projectxenocide.com. If there's someone else who has more time I'd say go with that member, but in a pinch I can do some work on it.
  14. Well, instead of equiping every guy with a blaster bomb launcher, just give them all stun sticks with their flying suits, that makes it fun again! I wonder if you MC a chryssalid, can you then attack other aliens and make them zombies/chryssalids? That would be fun!
