  1. Good Lord there's a bunch of names I remember and relatively recent posts! Oh, Time, you are a cruel mistress.
  2. I'm assuming you're asking regarding the original 90's game, if so then: 1 Yes and no. If, before you finish the mission, you remove clips then even partially used ones will be credited as full in the post mission accounting. So, in that sense you can have unlimited clips. WARNING: any clips that are not 100% full (even just one round expended) that are still in their weapons are counted as fully expended and destroyed. 2a) Yes, you can but items MAY get destroyed. That's okay, your number one priority is to survive a mission. Everything else, including saving civilians is secondary. 2b) Yes, you can but sometimes the rocket WILL do the job; there is variability in damage. Again, that's okay; same reasons.
  3. Just a thought. Since minecraft has proven that hardware is good enough now that a real time first person game with inefficent world rendering algorythms can be written in JAVA, I wonder if Xenocide in JAVA would be worth it. Of course with the new UFO Enemy unknown, there'd be the opportunity to combine the desireable elements of that game into it as well. Hm?
  4. Alas the project had ALMOST everything. It was well organized, had plenty of resorces, and had lots of motivated and talented people. But, basically it only had one programmer who had any spare time. And so that was that.
  5. There are two things you need to do to provoke a base defense mission. 1) take the advice from field of dreams ie: if you build it t(he)y will come. 2) wait be patient young man they will invade, but like was said earlier, give em a reason to want to, so start doubling your efforts to pot UFOs BTW cyberdisks in base defense are not so bad since their flying abiliy is essentially negated. Just toss a high explosive under it and disk-be-gone. Never fails; NEVER. BTW whats your theory, we may already know the answer?
  6. The answer is . . . It depends. If I'm playing budget conscious, keep soliders alive and train them style. Then I will 1 set up a squad for my skyranger with one of each tank and combined arms for my soldiers. 2 set up one interceptor with dual avalanche and almost never use it, leaving the other interceptor as is with default layout. Should it require repair then I swap armament between the interceptors. The duel avalanche interceptor comes into play when a terror ship arrives. I start its attack first using standard and the stingray/cannon one second as aggressive. If I lose an interceptor in the process no biggie, since (1) terror missions come at the end of the month and (2) buying a new interceptor costs the same as paying rent on an existing one making them almost free to lose. If I'm playing KISS and the ends justify the means style. then I will 1 set up a squad for my skyranger with 14 soldiers armed with AC carrying 2 HE and 1 AP 2 setup both interceptors with duel avalanche. In either case starting base is built in sofia bulgaria. I setup radar listening posts (lift + small radar which one day become full bases) in kansas and chungking china. The rest of my money is held in-hand for unexpected expenses. 10 Scientists and more default base facilities (like everyone else large radar general stores and AC) come after the first haul of loot.
  7. Well... I don't even remember right now what this mod does exactly! But just to say that I'm currently with a project to replace all UFO Defense terrains - I've finished the Alpha for the Terror Site replacement. It'd be nice if to ahve the XCOM base terrains 4 levels high. The lower two being the traditional stuff and the upper two being the ground above the base. But I'm not sure if this is possible.
  8. Hi, I made one of my small airbases in minecraft. That's two hangars, lift, missile defense, two stores, and a quarters. I have the base "hidden" under a cabin in a winter boreal forest biome. If I can figure out how to upload it here I will.
  9. Interesting idea! But to be fair. To make base defense easier, you DO sacrifice building time of the base (ie takes much linger) and you sacrifice, typically 5 modules to dirt. So you do "pay" for having a safer base.
  10. Simple just substitute your game addiction to a spending your life at xcomufo addiction. Baby steps.
  11. It occurs to me that both Xcom and minecraft use a 1x1 metre grid. So why not realize Xcom maps in minecraft. I think imma make an Xcom base in minecraft and post pics when im done. Now you can too. Be the first on your block!
  12. All enemy mind control means is you lose reaction fire since you stop-drop-and kneal at the end of each turn. Don't get me wrong its inconvienent and such missions are better avoided but if one is forced on you, there are ways to cope.
  13. The other thing you can do is just live with it all being too heavy to carry. Be over burdened; you're allowed. It just means you advance slower, that's okay. If everything on the map except your soldiers die (civies and the bugs) you'll do well enough. So don't feel under pressure for time to save mere civilians, they're the least of your worries. I've said this before I'll say it again, don't be afraid to just ignore terror missions (if you show up and leave right away its even less of a penalty than totally ignoring it, if its floaters then stick around awhile and enjoy yourself). But if you are going to fight terror missions they are best fought in the sky. Two interceptors with dual avalanche will do it for you. Before you have a visual or hyperwave decoder the tell tale sign to look for is the ship speed. Terror ships unique travel at IIRC 1800 knots. So if its near the end of the month and you see a large UFO going 1800 Knots. Then send your two dual avalanche mounted airplanes after them. Once the thing is shot down, don't visit the crash site; let the farmers take care of them.
  14. I discovered minecraft in Sept. its awesome!!!!!!!!!
