  1. Have any of you guys played Oddworld? All of this sounds very similar!
  2. Hmmm... I was just wondering, in Xenocide when the end results of the battle are posted, will you be penalized more points for losing one of your soldiers compared to losing a HWP? If not, you really should be... Looking through the original games and it just didn't seem right that X-com Command would place so little value on someone's life compared to the survival of a heap of plastic and metal! (-10 points for a dead troop and -20 for a destroyed HWP, I'm pretty sure it was) "Sir! The aliens are mounting a counter-attack!" "Right, get the HWP on board and then let's push off." "But sir! We have a rookie still on the field! He'll be cut down in seconds! Why don't we get him on board first?" "Because a rookie doesn't cost half a million bucks a piece!" Not very humane, is it?
  3. Here's another idea... That the Ethereals (who seem to command all the other races) are working on a great project which is so big that half the galaxy is somehow incorparated into their work. Then an accident happens, and an asteroid plows into a jungle planet ruled by gaint reptiles. Amazing, out the ashes, an intelligent race (thats us) emerges. Unfortunately for the Ethereals, this throws their great plans out of kilter. So they send their minions to find out what went wrong and find how to fix the problem. If the entire human race gets mutated or wiped out in the process, oh well... I actually wrote a short story about it (shows how much time I have on my hand's, doesn't it?). Just read the attached file and see what you think of it. Instruments_Of_The_Gods.pdf
  4. Feedback from anyone? Positive or negative, it doesn't matter which.
  5. Hi, After finishing X-com: UFO Defense I still had many questions that were not answered in the game. Why had the aliens come to Earth? Why did they perform their bizzare experiments? Even all the way do to why do the people of Earth begin to mutate if you fail your mission? This story is an attempt to answer some of these questions by writing the story from the perspective of one of the alien race, the Mutons and expanding the backgrounds of some of the alien races. Just open the attachment to find the story. I call it: "Instruments of the Gods". If anyone is interested in the story and would like to talk about it, just send me a message. Hope you like the story! Instruments_Of_The_Gods.pdf
  6. What about gravity genades? Anyone caught in the blast is squashed into the ground causing damage, reguardless of armour, and are unable to move or fire for several turns until the effects of the increased gravity field finish subsiding.

    Alien Songs!

Here's a short one I thought up: A Few of My Favourite Things (X-com style): Laser-rifles and fusion ball-launchers, Alien containments and UFO-power-sources, All those useless gadget that only go PING! These are a few of my favourite things... When the Reaper bites, When the Chryssalid stings, When I am feeling sad, All I do is think of my favorite things, And then I don't feel; so bad!
  8. Speaking of alien clothing... What would be great is if the aliens also wore special equipment as per their rank. (eg. engineers have toolbelts, medics have medical scanners, etc.)
  9. Thanks for that, centurion. It was only suppose to be an idea for discussion. It's not something you would take as it is and put it straight into the game without some major tweaking.
  10. I don't think this has been suggested, so how about this? The element Xenium is a synthetic element which has been made in alien laboratories. The element is slightly radioactive but has a long half life (ie. several hundred or similar) and is quite stable. Other than that, it's seems pretty ordinary. What is special about it is that when Xenium is transformed into its antimatter form in the UFO power sources (I'm pretty sure that's what happens with the Elerium in the orginal X-com) and reacts with true matter, gravity waves are emitted along with the powerful blasts of radiation. It is the gravity waves that the Xenium produces while in antimatter form that makes the element unique and which is why the aliens use Xenium and not other elements. What do you think? Incidently, if the Xenium was transformed into antimatter in the UFO power source there would be no need to have special antimatter containment pods. When the ship crash lands the damage in the engine rooms is due to the antimatter escaping the power source and reacting with the surrounding matter (i.e. the walls and unfortunate aliens )
  11. Is there a way to change the location where the elerium is placed by altering the table? (ie a config file which can changed by using notepad)
  12. I was using the map editor the other day finishing off a new terror ship map. I started the game, shot a terror ship down and landed a squad to have a look at how the map would work in the game. The strange thing was that next to each UFO power unit was, what looked to be, a stun bomb. When I stood over it and opened the inventory screen I found that is was actually a piece of elerium. Is this some strange bug I haven't heard about?
  13. Can the small launchers take out cyberdiscs as well? I've never tried...
  14. <searchs first page carefully> Oh! Oops, sorry!
  15. That's what they did in TFTD, except they were sonic weapons not plasma.
